BroodWar hanging please help

I have been playing BroodWar on XP for ages now and never had any trouble but recently it has started hanging mid game with a sound repeating and there is no way out except the reset button. I was running a very old creative pci card so I have recently installed a soundblaster live! 5.1 and thought i had solved the problem as i have played for 2 days with no crashes yet now just as I am winning a 1v1on temple (a fairly rare occurence) it hangs gggrrrrrrrr help me plz!:confused: :confused:

um my copy of xp isn't entirely um legal anyone know where i can updates? update site wont give um to me :(
 
Microsoft set up security in XP, such that anyone having an illegal copy of XP will not be able to patch it with updates. The only way to update is to get a legal copy.
 
Auto updates seem to work but not ones from the site ..? weird eh oh well are we sure that this is my problem anyway?
 
No, I'm not sure. However, the compatibility update may have helped.

Go in your Starcraft folder and look for the "Errors" folder. If existent, there should be an .err file. Open it up using NotePad and copy-paste the contents here. Don't bother posting all the coding, just the first ten lines or so.

would apear to be a direct draw error would it not, any ideas what to do ?
 
Do you get a ‘Direct Draw’ or a ‘Direct Sound’ error when you run the game?

StarCraft uses Microsoft's Direct X technology for sound and graphics. This means that your video and sound card drivers must be 100% Direct X compatible. If not, you can install Direct X 5 from the StarCraft CD, or download the latest Direct X version at (http://www.microsoft.com/directx/).

Most sound and video cards will work fine with the drivers included with Direct X, however, if you experience problems you will want to contact your sound or video card manufacturer and obtain the latest Direct X compatible drivers for your hardware.

Signs indicating you need an updated driver:
You receive any Direct Draw or Direct Sound errors
Game crashes or hangs
Sound cuts out during the game
Windows desktop is distorted or corrupted.
Sound Problems (after updating the drivers):
Make sure you have the Windows Updates.
Check your CD-ROM drive.
Sound is streamed from the CD, if the CD-ROM drive is not working right this can cause problems like skipping sound.
 
I have tried to install directx 8 off my morrowind cd it says it is complete but then the directx folder contains nothing but a shortcut that doesn't work. The Microsoft website says I have to get the service pack first but for the reasons stated above i apear to be a little stuck is there any where is to get service pack2 other than the microsoft update sight ? Thanx for the help btw it is much appriciated. (i have found service pack1 will this service 133meg download hurts my isdn line).

p.s. I have the latest drivers for my sound and video crad all are signed and ticked
 
indeed it is i am afraid the auto-update has just finished so i now have the compatability update but still no service pack and therefore no directx functionality (and still crashes)

    It's actually remarkably easy to make mayonnaise though. Fun fact, it USED to kind of be a French mother sauce. I believe that Careme considered it one, it may have been aioli but that has also built a different meaning than it used to. An aioli is just mayonnaise I mixed with other shit typically, I didn't start it don't come at me

    It's very hard to do it on a large scale though

    Depending on how you pour the oil the consistency can vary wildly, but that's true for most emulsions. I can only make about two quarts at a time with my robo coup, and if I have to make several in series because I forgot to order it becomes really obvious even when I do it. We have to wait and mix them all together to make sure we have the same thing.

    Hollandaise is also kind of like that, emulsions require a very steady hand to do exactly the same every time.

    Luckily I live in an age with electricity so it's way fucking faster, but when I was just a boy trying to find my place I had some hardcore chefs that made use do things like that by hand. It is WAY easier to get right by hand because you control it and can feel it, but it takes soooooo much longer. And on the scale a modern kitchen requires... I serve 400-500 guests on average per day right now, if I had 100 then we could do things way better

We have about 100 days of summer, and if that summer doesn't make us what it will, then I can't operate the other most of the year with my staff. The owner is talking about closing two days a week to cut down on labor, I told him he should cut down on vacations and it did not go great. I do think I won though, I have to keep my fucking core staff and they have to be gainfully employed

I can go to 25 if she keeps up. I need to get her onto line more, that's what she wants, but I need her where she is and it's not fair that she doesn't get the little bit of raise that comes with it. She can do it no problem, I've worked with her there.

    They won't get feel down while they do the thermometer, but we didn't have an instant read probe when I was learning. Like they did but god knows how off it is, you HAD to do it by feel. Even if the chef was fine with me bringing my own, it takes too long. Poke and know
