broodwar & socks

hi,

im behind a firewall, and the only possibility to do something else than http is to use the socks server. so i tried running broodwar via sockscap.
i can join battle.net and chat, but not host or join games.
what can i do to finally play my favourite game?
oh, and im using winxp.

i know this is blatenly obvius, but have you looked on bliz's tech site for help with a firewall?
 
The built-in firewall is turned off.
blizzards tech site isnt very informative, at least regarding this topic.
Of course I also searched the web for information, yet no success so far. I dont even know why broodwar refuses to join games.

you still can play diablo2 and others but no sc.

dont know why.
 
try to bug up your network administrator to turn off firewall after like 10 pm until the next morning.
 
ok, thx for the answers.
ive done a little more research and found out that there are computers (running linux) in the subnet that have full access to the internet and i can access them (as user, not root).
id like to know if it is possible to route the connection via one of those computers to battle.net bypassing the socks server?

PS: to the person who also experiences these problem: what os are you running?

    this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.

    One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs

    Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.

    Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.

    Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
