Starcraft ends up crashing within a couple minutes after joining any game(single or multiplayer) and also crashes on battle.net chat interface

------

Running under (Listing all versions of drivers I have tried)

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (build 2600)

Board: ECS K7S5A 1.0
Bus Clock: 66 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T 04/02/01

1466 megahertz AMD Athlon XP

512 SDRAM pc 133

NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 (43.45/41.09)

Hercules DigiFire(tm) 7.1 (6.09a/retail)
*Soundblaster Live 5.1 xgamer(Problems where present with this card as well)

Direct X 9.0a(9.0/8.1)

--------

I have tried fresh installs with 2 different cdkeys(One set of out of the box cds)

I have not found any viruses on my computer via Nortan antivirus 2002(which has its auto functions disabled)

None of the Starcraft files are fragmented or in a bad sector on the harddrive(plenty of swap space too)

I have tried turning off power management and forcing the display mode to 640x480 @ 256 colors

-----

I have been able to run:

Everquest
Unreal Tournament 2003
Masters of Orion 3
Jedi Knights II
Dungeon Siege

recently without any problems(dvds play fine as well)

Anyone have any suggestions short of upgrading computer parts or downgrading to a win98 machine?

I would really like to get Starcraft to work since some of my friends believe its the only game worth playing.

Is there an "Errors" folder in the Starcraft directory ? If so, copy-paste the first few lines of any .err file you might find in there. Open the .err file(s) using any text editor. (Notepad or Wordpad will do)

There isn't an error folder

The crash results in a sound loop and freezes PS2 and USB ports(numlock/capslock no longer change leds on key board from on to off) forcing me to manually reboot my computer. I don't have anything overclocked and my case has proper ventalation.

*CHEERS*

Lowering sound acceleration via dxdiag worked(Never would have figured to actually tell my soundcard to go slower myself, especially after going to a faster soundcard to try and fix it).

Thanks for all the support NoNameRequired

*big hugs all around*

Not completely solved...
I have XP, and whenever I try to run B.net (in SC or BW) it gets stuck in the "connecting to fastest server" part.
It leaves no error message, just crashes.
Any ideas?

Click on Start then Run.
Type regedit and click OK.
Click on the + icon beside the HKey_Local_Machine branch.
Click on the + icon beside the Software branch.
Select the Battle.net branch and press the delete key.
Click on the + icon beside the HKey_Current_User branch.
Click on the + icon beside the Software branch.
Select the Battle.net branch and press the delete key.

Delete the bncache.dat file which can be found in the Starcraft directory.

Are you behind a firewall or router ? If so...

Allow port 6112 TCP out and allow established sessions in

Allow port 6112 UDP out and in

Also, if you are using XP's built-in firewall, try disabling to see if that fixes your problem. (Although XP's Firewall should not cause a problem)

I've done it all;
deleted the regedit stuff (though I couldnt find that Key)
And I have to idea about how to make the firewall allow things to pass (I disabled it, no use).
No win XP firewall, no worries here.
PLEASE??? It just doesn't work \:

I can't open blizzard's page (for some days now).
Maybe you can send me link to a different site?

It's not working. ):
I need some other link to the SC (Not BW) patch.

No, thats not the problem - if I was able to get to blizzard's site than I could find it by myself, but I can't get there.
Both links are NOT working, and I can't get to blizzard's site.
I need a DIFFERENT site with the patch, if you know one.
Thanks.

What is the problem ? The site works perfectly for me, including these two direct links I posted.

An alternative would be going to http://www.filemirrors.com and entering the name of the patch in the search box. It will find mirrors for you.

Starcraft 1.10 - Write SC-110.exe
Brood War 1.10 - Write BW-110.exe

You could also possibly download it off a P2P client.
It should not be hard to find the patch yourself...

Blizzard is still not working for me, tried both netscape (7.0) and IE.
Anyway the File Mirror works, thanks.

Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
  • The Helper The Helper:
400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Happy Thursday!
