Buffs and time

How do I change the length of time a buff lasts? I.e. I want to have a Buff that lasts 40 seconds, say, and deals 5 damage per second. Also, how do I change how long it lasts? Is there a way to change it so that at 30 seconds, it goes to, say, 10 seconds, and if so, how? Thanks.

Do not worry about "Buffs" - all the things you want to change are in the ABILITY THAT MAKES THE BUFF.

In the Object Editor {If you don't know it already, learn quickly}, go to the Abilities tab, and find the ability that gives the buff. Go down the list of field values until you reach: Stats - Duration - Normal

Change it to 40.
If you want it to deal damage, base your ability off Slow Poison {Night Elf Ability} or similar, and change the Data - Damage Per Second to 5.
Change the other Data tabs to remove the unwanted affects.

Let's assume a 40 second duration. Is there a way to make it expire faster? Like add time to whatever counter keeps track of time elapsed?

Or, alternatively, can I simply create my own timer event and remove the buff when it expires, changing the amount of time on the timer as I need to?
