MILPITAS, Cali. (TND) — A school district in California is asking students' parents to house educators due to increased costs for housing near their schools.
The Milpitas Unified School District sent out online forms to parents in the district that read:
"Do you have a room for rent? Please fill out this form and our MUSD educators who are seeking a room to rent will be notified. The rest is up to you."
According to The Washington Post, ten teachers from the Milpitas Unified School District quit their jobs at the end of June because they simply could not afford to pay for housing in the area near the schools. These teachers ended up finding jobs in areas where the cost of living is cheaper.
The loss of so many staff is what led school district officials to make such a desperate attempt to keep their educators.
According to World Population Review, the average household in Milpitas makes $154,559 but according to information from the school district, teachers' annual salaries for the district are as low as $68,000.
