Ok, so I have a cable modem and no matter what, I cant seem to connect to battle.net for starcraft. I went to the website and it said to check ports 116 and 118 and the rest of the crap, and I did and it was all fine. My brother, who uses the same router as me on a different computer, can play starcraft fine.... Ive tried uninstalling and then nstalling again 2 different starcraft CDs, and to no avail. I get as far as it saying "conencting to fastest battle.net server", then it stays there for a while and says it cant connect, and that you may need to sign on manually to the internet (which I obviously dont have to since I have a cable modem). So theres my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1 - Latest Version
Do you have the latest patch ?

2 - Server List
Click on Start, and then Run.
Type regedit and click Ok.
Click on the + icon beside the HKey_Current_User branch.
Click on the + icon beside the Software branch.
Select the Battle.net branch and press the delete key.
Click on the + icon beside the HKey_Local_Machine branch.
Click on the + icon beside the Software branch.
Select the Battle.net branch and press the delete key.

3 - Trace Route
Click Start and then Run
Type COMMAND and press ENTER
In the COMMAND window, type TRACERT realm.BATTLE.NET > C:\TRACERT.TXT and press the Enter key. Note that realm should be replaced by the site you a having problems reaching (ASIA, USWEST, USEAST, EUROPE). A file will be created on your C: drive called TRACERT.TXT that contains your trace route information.
Note your IP address. This can be found using WINIPCFG in Windows 95, 98 and ME. For Windows XP and Windows 2000, type IPCONFIG in the COMMAND window.

4 - Setting up Router
Follow this link. It will help you set up your router correctly for Battle.net.

thanks for going through all the trouble. One thing though, I cant do that tracer thing, cuz I dont know which realm im in. When I go into multiplayer, it gives me choices like either "england, USA, Germany, Afganistan", etc. It doesnt give me Europe, Asia, West USA, East USA" which is really weird, and I dont know why it doesnt.... if you know anything about that that would be great. thanks anyway if ya dont.

Ah.... Now I understand. A 3rd party program has modified your server list. To fix this problem, delete that program and follow these steps.

Click on Start then Run
Type "regedit" and click OK
Click on the + icon beside the "HKey_Local_Machine" branch
Click on the + icon beside the "Software" branch
Select the "Battle.net" branch and press the delete key
Click on the + icon beside the "HKey_Current_User" branch
Click on the + icon beside the "Software" branch
Select the "Battle.net" branch and press the delete key

Delete the "bncache.dat" file in your Diablo II folder.

ok, thanks, but I also forgot to mention when i tried to enter regedit, it said i couldnt get into it cuz it had been disabled by the administrator of my computer... but when I log onto my computer, i sign in as administrator.... do you know how I can gain acess to regedit? I really apreciate what your doin for me as well :)

i think it would be better if we could just talk on AIM or something instead of through posts..... if you have AIM, my SN is JMan22124.

Why we should all talk in the forum instead of private:

Everyone else can use the solution when they run into the same problem.

What is Windows professional NT??? XP Pro? 2000 Pro? NT 4.0?

I don't get it.

If you have XP Pro, open control panel, administration tools, local security...

You should find a line there about changing registry. Change it so that all users may change registry. I can't check it myself right now, since I'm not logged on as administrator. I'll check it later.

does SC not have a problem when one is online and the other tries to get online in the same network using adsl or cable .
i thought there used tobe a NAT problem

i went into admin. tools, but I didnt see anything about registry... I just think since I probably dont understand much of this, it would be easier to be able to solve this problem within maybe 5-15 mins instead of dragging it out over a course of over a week now. we would post the problem and how we solved it if we do in fact solve the problem....

Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.

400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Happy Thursday!
