Can't update drivers

Hi,

Huge dilemma.

I wanted to update my geforce 2 card so I went to device manager and clicked uninstall in the 'geforce 2' window.

Reboot, and then couldn't install the new Nvidia drivers. I got this strange error: "An error occured while launching the setup. (0x80040702)

In device manager, I can't update drivers. When i click on the 'update drivers' button, nothing happens. This applies to ALL the devices in the list.

I'm running Windows XP in an admin account.

And now, since I technically have no video card installed, my display adaptor runs on something called vgasafe. What is that? I can't disable it if not Windows won't start. I did toggle 'VGA mode' once to try install the drivers with that mode but it didn't work. And, my computer can run at 1024x768 and at 32bit colour!

What is happening? Somebody please help.
 
Some people might tell you that in order to update detonator drivers, you must first uninstall the previous ones. I, for one, find this untrue. I always overwrite the previous drivers with the new ones and always ignore that warning during the setup. I've never had any problems with this method.

At this point, go in the control panel and select Add Hardware. That should find your GeForce. Windows XP will install it's built-in detonator drivers. At that point, just install the newer detonator drivers.
 
Well, I did try what you said but I get that same error.

"An error occured while launching the setup. (0x80040702)"

Nothing is installed.

Also, my "display adaptor" is something called 'vgasave' - i think something left over from 'safe mode'. I can't remove or disable it if not Windows won't boot.
 
No, I do not have it installed. Er..somehow can't get it installed either.
 
Yeah but that's not the matter. Removing and then putting back my graphic card doesn't work - I tried. I'm still stuck with that silly VGAsave and the inability to update my drivers.

I think I'd have to reformat my hdd and do a reinstall of XP.
 
Knowing the error message during the service pack installation might help. If the service pack cannot install, it sounds like there is something wrong with your Windows installation.

    this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.

    One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs

    Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.

    Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
