CD-Rom spin down issues

Well, I recenlty upraded my Cd-ROM(32x --> 56x); The device installation was uneventfull, and after installation, I went on to Battle.net to play some LoD...
Problem 1:
I cannot connect to Battle.net. The error reads that only one isntance of a CD-KEY can be logged on at one time, then it shows the registered name of the CD-KEY currently logged on, which jsut happens to by MY registered name. Also, I have owned LoD for about a half week(avid d2 player though), and I had never even been on long enough to give away a cd-key(see Problem 2).

Problem 2:
When in single player(can't log-on to b.net), the game runs fine, but after about 7-10 minutes, the CD-rom drive spins down, and the game becomes laggy to the point of unplayability. I consulted Blizzards FAQ, and used one of the recomended drive monitors, which did not help at all.

Problem 1) Do you get on battle.net, then log off, then can't get back on again? If so you just need to wait. If you can't even get on to begin with it means that b.net has a problem with you and you need to email blizzard about it, they can do something to let you log on.
Problem 2) Copy over all the MPQ file from your CD to your HDD that aren't already there. It sounds like after your drive spins down it won't spin back up for the game to read the music/graphics.

Well, problem 1 has been mysteroisly solved, but, after going throuhg with your procedure, it still dosn;t work, (all the mpq files were already there)

Yes the first problem (cd key in use) is a normal thing that happens when the server gets confused. It only lasts a short while.

As for the CD ROM problem, try this although it is probably already done:

. Right click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click Performance.
4. Click File System.
5. Click CD-ROM.
6. Click and drag the Supplemental cache size slider all the way to large.
7. Set the Optimize access pattern for Quad-speed or higher.
Click OK.
8. You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Click Yes.

Windows 2000 and XP don't even have this option because they automatically assume you have at least a 4x drive (duh!)

As an aside, upgrading from 32x to to 56x is pretty much pointless in my opinion. The transfer rate is theoretically a bit faster but in reality you won't notice a big difference with anything above 16-20x.
