Choppy game play on a dell 4500s

I am visiting a friend in fla who has a dell 4500S. When playinf a game with a batttle of ten guys the game stalls for a split second as well as the sound. This computer is a business type computer. I put in a new sound card and a new video card to see if i could solve the problem. These upgrades did not help much. The previsous video card was an integrated card. Any suggestions

Close any unnecessary tasks

The following site does a good job of telling what each startup program does and how safe it is to uncheck them (remove them from being execurted at startup of your computer)

also try adding the following line to your system.ini in the [386Enh] section/tab shown by running msconfig as described above.

helped but problem still exsists

This helped some but the main problem is still there. When i look in msinfo.exe under the sharing and conflicts tab i get some conflicts that don't showup under the device manager could this be the problem?

What are your computer specs, and operating system

THis is a business style computer. it only has two pci upgrade slots and no agp slot. The video card is integrated to the mother board. At first inspection of the problem i purchased a new sound card. That card is a mad dog multimedia model prowlersoundwave 4.1. This did not help at all. So i installed a hercules video card model 3d prophet 4000xt. this did not help. Both card have the latest drivers for them. Both cards are pci version.

I really have not played around much with XP but, I do know that running msconfig in 98 & ME will allow you to access the programs that are loaded when you start you r computer. If memory serves me correct it still works in XP.

here is a site that lists the startup files and what they do, it also indicated which can be disabled.

if you have findfast or fastfind installed by MSOFFICE, disable it.

disable any scheduling software as well.

Also if I recall correctly XP has a tendency to hide a lot of the startup files.
