nice - good lesson

I got an idea for my story but it might be a bit longer then the one page (I'll try not to make it too long but I don't it to feel rushed)

Also if the main characters were soldiers, and I'm writing a fantasy, would it be appropriate if once in a while they were to swear.
(You said it would be inappropriate if characters swore in fantasy, but it would be a normal attribute for someone of that occupation to have)

It depends on the fantasy, In Futuristic fantasy i could see it but not too much. In Medieval try not too. Instead of something like son of a b*tch you could do something like son of a swamp hag.

Fantasy = Be Creative

Yes, very good lesson. I especially liked the mystery section, something to add onto it.
Its a fine line, you must keep the reader guessing, with subtle clues. Do not make it to easy or to confusing. Hold its interest with a continual flow of suspense. Drop clues into the smallest of things.

Anyway, did you read Amaranthine, and if you did, could you comment/tell me what you thought?

I'll try to come up with something for the assignment ;)

Alright heres mine. Its a bit longer then what you said (it 1 1/2 pages) but I had to add it all in. My story a fantasy type genre. Read it and tell me what you think!

Tips for Writing

1. For me the hardest part of writing is starting the story the 1st 3 pages

If so your like me find any good book and read how they start it and till you get a Idea

Same thing if you can't think of a ending

But theres a different from copying and looking up for a resource so don't copy it ok

2. If you have a problem with too much action don't do a topic about war maybe do a topic about escaping from a prison of war (less action on the topic)

Notes:Too much action is a another probelm for most writers

3. If you can't finish the story don't feel bound to finish it then it loose its Interest and will become borning

Note: I have throw away maybe like 50 topics because I couldn't finish them

4. If you can't think of names Don't worry names can be easily changed with a computer or if you want think of them ahead of time I usually Japanese Names because I can use any word to make there name sound cool (You can use any langauge you think would be good)

5. Some writers like putting Author's Notes (I do) it tells the reader why you thought it was a good idea to go this way in the story. It also lets the reader understand you

Note: I put them at the end of the chapter but you can also put them at the end of the book as well

So I hope that helps some of you with problems that Basic to Advance Writers have

News: I will be soon opening a new website for writers from forums and others. They will be posted on there own page and (hopefully) people can post comments

Reason why now: I may actual find a hosting service that is cheap and won't rip me off

... Goth's High does that, ya know ^.^ Well, we have forums for writer's, at least, for them to post their work and for others to comment on it. The only reason they're not AMAZINGLY active is because we don't get as many people. Your new forum will have the same problem.

Why split activity apart when you can just get people to visit GH and comment their work there?

We don't need more mods unless we start getting more members and activity... Just comment people's stuff, you don't have to be a mod to do that at GH.com ^.^

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
