Comp display wrong specs

This has been going on for awhile but I thought i'd ask about it.

My computer says 1.8Ghz but I have 2.4Ghz. It started saying 1.8Ghz a few weeks ago, and I have had this comp for 2-3 years aprox, and it has been saying 2.4ghz since, and yes I do have 2.4ghz.

I have Windows XP Home Edition, SP2
768mb ram
2.4ghz
Pentium 4.

Something caused the multiplier to go down by 1.5x. Check the BIOS to see about fixing it. This can happen if the computer locked up at some point. The BIOS will try to pick a safe setting to boot the machine back again and this setting is usually the lowest multiplier and bus speed the board can do.

can you explain how to do that. my computer actually has the same problem, except its runing at HALF SPEED and its split between virtual and physics processor

here is what i see when i right click my computer and go to properties.
as you see, it has my processor at 2.6ghz

but here, it shows my two processors (physical and virtual) both at 1303, half of what my processor actually is.

nm i got it. back up to 2.6 again. ty whoever told me about this. feels a LOT smoother and faster.
