Hi guys, I apoligize for asking such a retarded question, but pls to help.

Well, I'm brand new to war3 world editor, so i decided to try and create a basic map to get the feel of the program.
I'd like to make a small map where you start with a hero and various enemies spawn every so often.
I had problems getting my map to load because I have no idea what initialazation triggers need to be present and what options need to be set. So i downloaded the custom map victory/defeat conditions thingy from the trigger help thread.
If I don't modify the map at all, it loads. Cool, that was a step foreard. But if I just add a her for player 1, I get script errors, can someone tell me what is necessary so a custom map doesn't return errors? Whats the basics I need to have present so the map is playable?
Thanx in advance

I'm using the TFT editor that comes with the game BTW.

hi, welcome to this forum first of all.

getting a script error from just placing a hero I can assure you is not normal behaviour for the world editor, something fishy is going on. Are you using the latest patch? Try reinstalling TFT if you haven't done so.

Oh yeah, could you also get a screenshot of the script error pls? It might help. Just hit printscreen on your keyboard, and paste into microsoft paint. Save the pic as a jpg and then attach it to a post here.

I have TFT installed and the latest patch (1.14b).

OK, So I load the non melee - victory and defeat map. I ran it unchanged just to do a check and it works fine. I throw down a paladin for player 1 and test the map and it does work.
The first error I get is 'Trigger Melee Initialization has been disabled due to errors'
Then it says trigger victory, defeat have also been disabled due to errors and then it says map test aborted due to script errors.

Screen capture is attached. as I scroll down the list of errors, there is a tonnes saying
'expected end of line'
'expected endloop'
'expected a name'
'expected a variable name'

I also tried just placing a peasant and then deleting him right after and trying the map, I get the same errors.
WTF? If I throw down a unit and delete it right after, How does that change the map at all???
I'm really confused here, have no idea what to do

Something went wrong when saving the map, in my insight. I'd try again, since you didn't put much work in your map yet. This time, leave the triggers alone, except, perhaps, the melee victory/defeat conditions.

I haven't saved the map, just tried to test it.
and I didn't even touch the triggers, just added the units.

Ummmm....OK
I don't wanna sound rude, but that doesn't solve my problem.
How do I fix the tileset? or how do I check to see if it is in fact the tileset?

I don't think its a tileset problem though. Even if I just create a new map, hit test without changing anything, it returns the same errors.....
Any ideas guys?

alright here, lets see if this helps.

When you go into the trigger editor, don't include the victory defeat things, just don't put any scripts there at all...

and there should be one in there that is called melee map initialization. Delete that too.

Don't run any scripts and you should be fine, but you won't have anything to do... when you want to make a script that ends the game when your hero dies, i can give you a screen of what that should look like, and Darg can put it in the useful triggers thing... if he wants lol now that i think about it i don't know how useful it will be to many people

Ok, this is really crappily put together, but i wasn't really into it, lol. But hey, it does the job. Scince with a normal hero, staying alive for about 10 seconds would be impossible, i doubled all the mountain king's stats and called him uber man...

so now you have a game where you can run around killing diff gnoll camps that respawn every 30 seconds as long as all the gnolls from that particular camp are dead.

If your hero dies, you lose.

That's about it, but i kinda went overboard... i initially just wanted to write the trigger, but OH WELL.

lol have fun

edit: actually, i'm only assuming that the hero death part works. As i told you, i wasn't really paying attention when i made this map, so it may very well not work quite right... sorry :P lol i think it will work though

hmm my first reaction is that one or more of your mpq archives have become corrupt, it doesn't seem to recognise any of the functions used in the map. Did you try reinstalling?

I reinstalled everything and it all seems to be working!
I really shoulda tried that before I went looking for help, sorry.
Thanx a lot

How often does the Trending Content box refresh?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.

Mad Lads is new I see it displays original post date

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
