Computer case Vs CPU ?

Whats a TAC computer case?

But it says its not recommended for the Prescott P4, because it is not a 'TAC' case and could have cooling problems.

But will it WORK? I know different pentiums need different power supplies, right?

What am I buying when I buy a Dual zeon?

It says dual core. One box.

But the "dual xeon" board has two CPU spots.

So is it one chip, with two cores, or, is a dual xeon, two xeons, or

The Xeon board can take two chips, it is a multprocessor board. The board will work with one chip or two. If it supports the dual core chip it is the same, you can stick one dual core chip in or two - or however many the board will support.

TAC = Thermally Advantaged Chassis

Dual Xeon is different than dual-core Xeon. Dual Xeon is two chips on a single borad while dual-core Xeon is one chip with two CPU cores in it.

And drop two 'Prescotts' in it ? Or do I have to drop 'xeons' into the 'dual xeon' board?

Why are there no other 775 Socket dual boards, except for the 'dual xeon' board?

I am confused.

The dual core xeon chips are brand new - just came out so that might be why there is a limited availability of those motherboards. Personally I never go with the latest technology and unless you have a server or software that takes advantage of dual processors having dual processors will be useless. Applications have to be written to take advantage of that.

Okay so what I cannot find is, or dont know how to find

A dual microATX board, I can drop two 'Prescotts' into.

I did look at the 'Extremes', 'Extreme HT', and the 'Dual Xeon' but the prescott is in my budget. You know 3.4 from 3.8 saves about 200$ a chip? I think its worth getting the smaller ghz chip to save that kind of cash. Newest and best is always the ripoff, in less than a year better shit will be around anyway

The P4 is not a dual processor capable CPU. You will not find a dual Socket 775 board because the chips for it cannot do dual by design. You could do dual Xeons on a Socket 603 board or you can get a P4 with HT, but your best best is to get a P4 600 series that has the 64-bit extentions and 2mb of L2 Cache. Those are some really fast chips for the money.

Also, a TAC case is necessary for the newer P4 CPU's and Prescott core chips run much hotter than most others. If you're used to AMD chips, the heat the Intels put out will be much more and requires much better cooling.

Trust me, I have a 3.2Ghz P4-Extreme in my home computer.

Ya I read some reviews about the Antec case. Many people had to cut it up and add fan mounts and vents to it.

On chip or case?

I can't find a micro board for the 650 that has DDR2

And I usually buy intel boards.

But the intel board for this chip only has 2 slots, and all this extra crap I don't need (audio, video)

So I found an ECS board - 4 slots, no video, etc.

The last I looked at an ECS board it was almost an exact replica of my current Intel board, so I think thats OK. Plus it use the intel chipset anyway (I hate via, etc)
