This computer has been freezing constantly since the first 5 minutes we turned it on. It seems random and i cannot see a pattern or definite cause of the freezing. For most of the winter, the computer didnt freeze, but i just started freezing constantly again. I checked all of the fans, and they are running fine, except for a case fan in the bottom front of the computer, but the case is open anyway so i didnt think i really matterd. The BIOS says the cpu is at 83F and the system is at 72F, ive never seen the temperature about 85. The computer seems cool to the touch, so i really didnt think the problem was heat related. I reformatted recently, and updated all the of the drivers. Now the programs on the computer are warcraft3 and aim and it still freezes. Please help.
-thanks for your time

You need to test your ram, now i don't know how this periodically freezing up constantly thing happened. Did you download any bad programs or install any new hardware? Did you install the ram yourself? If so make sure all of your jumpers are correct and your ram is getting the right voltage.

Use this program to check your ram. You'll have to put in onto a boot disk to test.

No, i didnt download bad programs and the only hardware i installed was a geforce 3 ti200. I used to have a gf2 mx400 but the same problem occured with that card. Also, i reformatted and the problem still exists, so im thinking this is a hardware issue. The ram test is currently running so ill get to you on that (im on another comp). thanks

Sorry for the tripple post, but the program says TEST FAILED. So what exactly isnt working?

Well it's obviously the ram not working. Hmm, do you have a instruction booklet that came with your motherboard? It always good to check to see if the jumpers were set correctly. But since it had problems to begin with you most likely have a cheapo ram stick that is defective. Just simply replace that ram stick with a name brand, samsung, kingston, excetera....

Make sure the new ram you buy is compatible with your system. Don't go buying the newest DDR PC466 :)

well i ran that same memory test on my other computer which works fine, and it says TEST FAILED. After that i was a bit uneasy about spending $80 on RAM which isnt needed. Should i put my other computers RAM in this computer as a test? both are sdram, except this one 133mhz and the other is 100.

You could try, but don't mix PC 100 with PC 133.

Maybe your computer needs a BIOS update.

Another possibility is that your computer may be looking around for a DHCP server that does not exist.

Go to the Start Menu, Control Panel, Network Connections. Right click on your Local Area Network card and select properties. There will be a box with a list of protocols. Select TCP/IP and click properties.

Now, instead of "Obtain an IP address automatically", select "Use the following IP address".

For the IP address, write 192.168.0.XX (Replace XX with any numbers you want. I suggest anything between 10-19.)
For the Subnet Mask, write 255.255.255.0

Press OK and reboot.

I used your new netword settings and was unable to connect to the internet.

Where can i find a BIOS update?

Hey, this is my thread, i just registered a new name. I took out each ram stick one at a time, to see if one of them was faulty. Each time, the computer froze, so either both ram sticks are faulty (which i doubt) or the problem is somewhere else. PLEASE HELP THANKS:confused:

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
