"I only think they seem imbalanced to me on paper"

Ok, then try to balance them 'on paper'. (never really liked that saying)

"PotM doesn't have a morph;"
PotM has hide.

"Warden doesn't have a morph (she has a summon);"
Warden has hide (and a summon with various abilities).

"the Naga Sea Witch doesn't have a morph;"
Sea witch has submerge. Submerge is a morph.

"the Brewmaster has a morph."
Each with unique abilities.

"Does your hero have a morph? No; it can burrow into the ground."

Burrow is a morph.

"What categories are the judges judging? There's only one they are judging and it's called "Coding". The judges are not basing any score they give on what the spells do, what the tooltips are, how the hero fits his theme, how useful the hero is, or anything of that sort. They are simply reviewing the hero's code."

Why not extend the judges role so it doesn't become a complete popularity contest?

There are some who would use any excuse to ban me.

Shadow Meld (not Hide) is an ability many Night Elves have, and so I said I don't have a problem with that. Sure, the Warden has a summon with 1 unique ability (resistant skin and spell immunity are moot points), but I also said I don't see anything wrong with summons that have abilities.

The Brewmaster is weird because he has a 3-part morph... the thing is that none of those units he morphs into have unique abilities. Every ability they have is present on (an)other unit(s) in the game.

The thing with burrow is that only two (and that's only if someone picks a Crypt Lord) units have the ability in the entire game: Crypt Fiends and Carrion Beetles. I don't think it's really a "standard" ability for a race like Shadow Meld is for Night Elves.

The point of having the judges only judge the code is so that it isn't a popularity contest... else it would be all about pleasing the judges specifically....

You're right, the term is kind of stupid to use on the internet. Give me some time and I'll see what I can come up with for more balanced abilities.

This is in a paragraph. The bolded parts are the only sources of a hero setup. The rest is just an example. Paragraphs != Neat Layout
"Must be a balanced hero, like one you could add to a melee map."
That means 3 normals and a ult, generally. There is no theme. What do you need to know?!?! What a hero is??! If you play wc3, you should know....

This is what I'm talking about. Judges should not be able to just pull a number from 0-100 out of their ass. They need a setup.
If it really bothers you THAT much I can pull them out of the old version I PMed myself. Seriously, though, Judging will be dicided mostly by votes in the poll, judges baisically make sure they are deserved, and add in thier own votes.

Pyrogasm should really be hosting this not me... >_>

The posts regarding whether this thread is full of spam or not have been deleted. Let's stop posting them, this thread is way too active as it is.

Pyrogasm, I have no idea from where you get all those nerves to tell us how to moderate, especially is such disrespectful manner. The thread is 18 pages, you know what hell I went through trying to clean it? And half of the posts I wanted to delete I ignored.

Sorry for the spammy thread...

@Anti_Noob: I suppose so...

"I don't think it's really a "standard" ability for a race like Shadow Meld is for Night Elves."

it is for zerg in star craft XD. Is there really a difference? One turns you invisible and you cant move... the other turns you invisible and you cant move.

Anyway, thanks for the criticism. I'll continue with my map and when I have the first version out then it will be easier to tell how things fit together.

If anyone makes a hero that fits Naga theme I will gladly steal it for use in Pyramidal. :)

Ok...

This thread started vague and unorganized, and went downhill from there.
Currently, it "discusses" how some people think that other others think that think... whatever the heck.

As such, I'll overrule whoever thought it's funny to sticky this, and just close it before it gets (too) personal.

Actually, this thread is as much a moderation failure as it is a member failure.
It should never have gone that far.

The thread as such changed direction several times.
That's not how it should be.
A contest needs a clear and pretty much permanent first post.
With all the rules, plans, and ideas clearly detailed.

Once people start to discuss it... that's the point where some moderator should have stepped in to keep it in line.
Unfortunately, that just didn't happen for some reason.

By now, this thing is beyond hopeless.

Closing it... is really just moving the problem somewhat out of view.
It hasn't actually solved it...

It is clear though that we need some better forum rules for general contest handling.

We'll think about it.

Yours,
AceHart

I ordered like five blocks for 15 dollars. They're just little aluminum blocks with holes drilled into them
  • Varine Varine:
They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
  • Varine Varine:
I see that, despite your insistence to the contrary, we are becoming a recipe website
  • Varine Varine:
    Which is unique I guess.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air
