Cool Cliff Mini Tutorial

Just a little something I stumbled upon on how to make large cliffs.

<>First take the raise tool and select the largest circle.

<>Next make a very large hill in one spot, move the mouse around quickly in the same square several times over to get a large hill.
[img=http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3218/clifftutstep1vx3.th.jpg]

<>Take the plateau tool and drag from the flat water into your hill to make a large indent.

<>Then smooth out you cliff with the raise tool(smooth does not work well)

<>texture it and add some doodads.

<>there you have it, a very simple yet good looking cliff that can be used in several situations.

<>correct me if im wrong here, but I believe units will still be able to climb the hill so some pathing blockers to counter act this. Again if im wrong please correct me.

Sorry about no screenshots(I have one for each step), I don't have a program that will open them, any ideas or a way to convert them please tell me so I can be as helpfull as possible.

I've got photoshop on the way so hopefully the screens too!

hm... smells like torrent, lol!

btw, you get better cliff results if you use a miscdata.txt ... hm... i will post a linkt to the download if i find it...

EDIT: here is the link http://www.thehelper.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32561

(that tutorial in the link covers yours as well btw... )

Mmm....Sorry. It doesn't much look like a cliff to me. Looks more like an island with rocks on it where the beach should be. This is because of the smoothness of the transition from water to land. Cliffs are usually a lot rougher than that.

Another way of land blocking (it's the same idea as cliffs - making one part of land innaccessable by sea) is to put doodads in the ocean...making a rocky, dangerous (inaccessable) coastline.

Good start! Keep practising.

Yer i use that technique sometimes i reccomend you make the hill alot steeper so it will look more like cliffs. Also yes units can still walk on it press p to see the pathing. Oh and also its a good idea to plateua the top then put on hills and noise etc.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
