cpu load and stuff

got a system here with winxp home
if i look at the cpu it has a load from 0 to 1%
the swapfile changes abit in size and the interal memory changes a little also . up and down

so big deal 0-1% cpu load
cept the problem is that when this dude places the comp at home the cpu loads goes to 100% and freezes up totallyn (least that is what he says)

so i booted in safe mode and i noticed the cpu load is zero and stays zero .

so with services.msc i disabled all non critical/needed services.
it seems (not sure) that it has some effect.
but still the cpu load goes up and down , up and down

anyone has any suggestions ?

Wargy

cpu amd 1400
memory 512 megs (i replaced that btw)
maxtor hd 40 gb
all in all nothing special hardware wise

checked for viri and spyware
