Crappy laptop Needs an OS!!!

I have a P133 laptop with a 1 gig HD and 32 megs of ram.

I need an O/S that can be installed with floppy disks, and I need to be able to type text documents, and it would be cool if I could play a few MP3s...

This laptop is for note-taking at college...I have a desktop, this is just a cheesy note-taker....haha....any suggestions you can give me would be good.


Linux was suggested to me...I would be happy to go with that...but I need to know what version...where to get it...ect...

windows 95 had a disk version
with that cpu i doubt it will play mp3's rather well when you doing stuff on the background also .
 
another option is to buy a external freecom paralel cd rom player ..
it will go sloooww tadd faster then the floppy tho ..
then the next day you bring it back and tell'em it is not what you thought it would do ..
 
Haha, yea...windows 3.1 would be....ummm....old.....but interesting....well...I was hoping I could get linux...that would be better then win 3.1.....and the win 95 on disk is nearly non-existant....


I do like the CD-rom idea though....get and external, load windows....then take it back.

I AM on a dorm hall, I could see if anyone has an external one...I didn't think of that...thanks for the info guys....any other suggestions are welcome!!!

I think that Linux might be your best bet. It is after all designed to be scalable. You will probably need to get a CD rom drive from somewhere, but you should be able to download the latest version or eithe Suse or Redhat. Suse is a more user friendly interface for installing, and it you only install the bare minimum then you should be okay.
Also, you can get Openoffice ( a freebie again) from the openoffice website, and it's compatible with MS office 2000/XP.

Could be a bonus !:)
 
if have a network card you can make up (or download) a bootdisk with DOS drivers, and then install whatever you want over the network (from another PC)

Got to be work getting a network card, or modem for it (or perhaps a combination card) should be pretty cheap from Ebay. And they always come in useful !!1:cool:
 
just get dos 6.2 with a simple dos based word proc that would run on anything

    I have two salmon, Sockeye and Atlantic. Atlantic is used for the kids salmon and the salmon and beet salad, and can also be added onto any dish or just as a side. Atlantic salmon will almost exclusively ever be FARMED, as it is endangered in the wild, and we ALWAYS cut them to 4 ounces.

    SOCKEYE salmon, very different and this IS wild caught. We have an ENTREE version, and an add on version. The entree is 7 ounces, the add on is 4. Why? Because that is how someone that wasn't me set up the computer.
