crazy sc connection problems

i just installed starcraft and when i tried to connect to battle.net(on any realm), it just says "searching for the fastest server" and never does anything. if i click "cancel", it hangs starcraft(i get a black screen) and i have to close it with the task manager. but wait, theres more: after i close it, the process keeps running in the background and i cant start starcraft again unless i restart my computer. i went to blizzard.com and downloaded the latest starcraft patch(cuz i get it off b.net, cuz it wont let me connect). if i take the starcraft cd out, it will let me connect, but i want to find out why this is happening, not just get around it. im running windows xp home.
 
Are you the same guy who applied some patch to the game to make it run in a window?

If you are, try uninstalling the game, reinstalling it, patching it and then connecting again. See if the patch is what did it. Note that the use of patches like that could possibly get your account closed and/or your CD-key disabled, as the Battle.net Terms of Use states that you are not allowed to modify any critical game files in any way.

I have this same issue with Starcraft, and I discovered that it was being caused by my Norton firewall running in the background. Interestingly enough, my solution is to remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive as well.

    this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.

    One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs

    Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.

    Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.

    Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
