Custom Error Messages

First, let me say what I mean by a "Custom Error message". When you try to cast a spell on a unit that is immune to magic, it will say 'Unit is immune to magic' or if you try to build a building, but do not have enough gold, it will say 'Not enough gold'.

I want to be able to modify what that message is, for example, making 'Unit is immune to magic' be 'Your an idiot, trying to cast magic on a unit that is immune to magic' (Just an example). Ive seen it done in a few maps, but none of my searches turn up anything. It isn't R.E.A.L important, but if anyone knows how, please post.

i think you can use triggers to cheak if the spell can be cast on that unit and display a text message but of corse all your abiltys would become trigger-and-dummy if you did that..on the bright side if you have lots of dummy abiltys anyway it wont matter

Using triggers, you can have the game display messages using actions such as "Game - Text Message" or "Quest - Quest Message". For the exact question you're asking, you can use the following trigger:

E:
A unit begins casting an ability
C:
Target unit of ability being cast is Magic Immune Equal to True
A:
Game - Display to (Owner of (Casting unit)), at offset (0.00, 0.00) for 10.00 seconds the text: Your an idiot, tryi...

^ This is untested, I'm not sure if the trigger will work because casting on a magic immune unit may not count as "casting an ability" but I'm sure there's a way around it if you look around.

Look under the Advanced menu. Below gameplay constants there should be another button. Click on that and look for the error messages. You can edit them there. You can also change what icons the gui uses.

Thanks alot, Jazradel. Thats exacly what I wanted, plus a bunch of other things I was curious how other maps did it. I was thinking along the lines of importing a text file, and setting it's custom path to overwrite the MPQ. Guess not =}. Thanks to everyone else, to, for posting kludges

From now on, I'm gonna post all my problems here, instead of wasting hours trying to find out myself
