Custom Unit Attack stats, how do I edit them?

Hi.

I am pretty clear on how to make things work on a unit, but one thing that really confuses me is the attack damage. If i am not mistaken, there are two types of attack on a unit. Combat attack 1 and combat attack 2, both of them hav a couple of things there that are like " damage base " and such. Can somebody please tell me how to me how to work this stuff out and what they are all about? the dice thing is pretty confusing too ...
