Well, Blizzard has released a new game.exe file to fix the compatibility issues with Samsung SN-308B drives. I was all excited, since I figured that since the War3.exe fix worked perfectly for me, this would too... but it hasn't worked.
I've completely uninstalled, deleted the folders, deleted the battlenet info from the registry, restarted, reinstalled, installed the patch successfully, removed the old game.exe file, and copied the new one in - no dice. I copied the D2Xmusic and D2Xvideo files from the CD to the game folder and tried again - still no dice. I've used both the game.exe file the CD Protection Team sent me, and the one from the updated support page on this issue, with the same result.
So, I've sent yet-another email off to Blizzard's CD Protection Team, and hopefully they'll get feedback from others as well and can refine the fix. But I'm dissappointed that this fix was a bust, since the War3 fix worked so brilliantly! Especially since my sister's home for a bit, and she plays D2, and not Warcraft.
