Hey everyone, new here, so forgive me if I say something stupid.

I installed Diablo II on this really nice new laptop I got, and it works beautifully. The only problem: In DirectDraw. I've lived with it up until now, but I'm tired of it. Direct3D can be run on this computer, the video test even recommended it. I have a Mobility Radeon, went and got "Radeon" drivers from ati.com(Tell me if those weren't the right ones), and tried it again and again. It gives me an error as goes:

Assertion Failure
Location : D2Direct3D\Src\d3dTextureCache.cpp, Line 90
Expression : tCache -> nMaxNumItems

Whew, had to type that, too.

Anyways, I'm running Windows XP, supposed latest drivers. Is there any help in sight? I'm SO tired of DirectDraw. But I can live with it if it can't be fixed. Well, any help MUCH appreciated. Later!

Before trying to fix this, you should know that Direct3D does not have much of a difference with DirectDraw in Diablo II. Not to mention Direct3D is known to be buggy in Diablo II in most cases.

Just thought I'd tell you before you spend some time with this.

Sounds like D2 is having problems caching textures to the allocated video memory. Perhaps there's an option to increase the shared memory, or some settings for the card itself to tweak the caches?

All right, might sound stupid, but here is my next question....

So, now that I know what the problem is, can you tell me how to get to the option to change that? I went into the Desktop Display thing (Right click on desktop - Properties, then Advanced) and I see the ATI Options, and the D3D options. All I need to know now is how to change that setting. Any ideas? Thanks so much and later!

I guess it depends on what card you use, but I can change the memory settings for my card like this:

(Note: I have a Swedish OS, so I'm sorry if the translation isn't correct...)

desktop properties - settings - advanced

one of the tabs should have the same name as your card, in my case it's geforce 256. Click it, then choose additional properties.

In the additional properties, you can change the settings for Open GL, and how much memory may be used for textures.

I hope this helped you, if anyone has better translations, feel free to change my post :)

Prefectly fine translation.
There should be some settings you can fiddle with, and for each there should be an option to right click it and get help. The help file should explain what does what and what effects it will have on what performance aspects.

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
