As part of an Activision Blizzard investor call, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime let those on the line know an external beta testing phase will begin in the third quarter of 2011. No word yet on whether it'll be an open beta or closed, but it's yet another indication that Diablo III is moving towards the finish line.

Those waiting for a hard release date will have to keep waiting, unfortunately, as one still has not been announced. Morhaime did say he'd like to see Diablo III ship in 2011, but there's no set date yet in place.

How would a 2011 ship date work if the beta is only gunna be in fall... that would either mean that the beta would last like a week or that they aren't actually going to take any feedback/bug reports and all the beta is going to be is just a demo (which is what games have been recently marketing their demos as: 'betas', as if they forgot what the actual difference was) for only a select few....

SC2 had 5 months of beta testing, if they release it in fall and release the game in 2011 then they have a max of 2 months...
me no gusta at all

don't rush to get it out Blizzard, this isn't your style... ignore gayctivision and do it how you always do, which is the right way not the shortcut way...

i mean i like this news of a beta time but im not liking the way it seems like they are rushing it.
(im reminding myself of those people who boycotted L4D2 because Valve released to so short after L4D. Gawd im such a nerd)

I agree, im pretty sure its just specualtion that Ign and other community's always do, they keep posting their estimated due date way earlier than it actually will be. As far as I can remember, on the hive there was a post saying d3 wont be out till 2012-2013 or so.

If the beta is released this year and the internal testing has already begun, we can expect the game at the latest Q1 2012 (calendar year).

I would want to remind you that "this fall" is incorrect, since the beta is targeted for Q3 2011 (calendar) which is July 1st - September 30th. Fall starts on September 21st. Bashiok has confirmed the Q3 and the dates as well on the diablo 3 forums. It was also stated in the conference call that they will not : "Risk quality to fulfill a release window".

If we expect the beta to come out at the latest and last the full 6 months, that means the game will be out late march or very early april at the latest, in 2012. The earliest release date is still Christmas and January 2012, if the beta starts in July (July-August-Sep-Oct-Nov-Dec(end of beta release)).

The beta does not need to last 6 months it could be shorter or longer, but the point is that the 2011 release, although slim is still an option. Past that an early 2012 release still means that the game is less than a year away at most and we can expect a lot of juicy info to be provided when the beta starts.

Nenad's logic is correct. Ideally, the beta is released in July. If the beta lasts ~5-6 months, that places release date earliest in either December or January. (If they released the game the day after my last final in December I would freaking love Blizzard. :p)

If the beta is released in September, with a ~5-6 month beta, that places the release date in February-March 2012 (April at very latest).

Either way, I think it is very realistic to say that we will have the game in our hands within 10 months. That is very good news indeed. :D

OMG I want to play this game so bad.

How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
