If nothing happens when you try to start Diablo II, or if you are instructed to insert your Play Disc when it’s already in your CD-ROM drive, then please try the following steps:
Install the latest Diablo II patch.

Use the original disk
If you are using a backup CD, a burned CD, or a CD emulator program, use the original game disk instead.
Administrative rights
Windows 2000 and XP Professional users should make sure they have administrative rights on the system they are logged in with. Windows 2000 users should make sure ACPI is enabled in the BIOS.
Check for Viruses
Make sure that you are using the most current update for your virus detection software. In some cases it may be possible that your virus detection software cannot detect the virus (see below). If the virus is detected, you will want to clean the infected files, not delete them. Deleting the infected files could cause serious problems with your system. After you have cleaned those files, the programs that were infected must be re-installed in order for them to work properly.
If your virus detection software is not able to detect or clean the infected files, or if you do not have any virus detection software, then please try a virus scanner listed below.

Gateway users
Typically with Gateway computers there are two things that conflict with the game running, a program named The Help Spot and if you are using the original OEM drivers for the sound card, the Gameport Joystick will conflict. Kenwood TrueX
Users with Kenwood TrueX CD ROM drives may require a Firmware Update to read the Diablo 2 Play disk. The Firmware Update is available for download at the Kenwood Technical Support Site. For more information click here:

CD-Rom drive letter
