Diablo 2 LOD Mess Ups?

I am on 746kbs DSL with a top of the line computer and a minimum requirments computer. On the minimum requirments computer, Diablo 2 LOD runs very smoothly with no lag at all. On my top of the line computer, I get 3,000+ ping/latency very laggy and slow as you can tell. It takes me atleast 4 minutes just to connect to the login screen for East Closed Bnet. Then, it takes another 2 minutes to log me in and so fourth. What in the world is the problem and is there a fix of some kind/patch?? This is very agrevating. Little and all help submitted is greatly apreciated.

-Im also getting HUGE ammounts of lag in a single game! Im hosting my own game not even to the internet and I am getting lag from absolutley NO WHERE. Any suggestions/patches/fixes guys? Thanks.

System specs for both machines would definately help.

Motherboard, processor, amount of RAM, and Operating System at least.

Also, are you connecting through a router of any sort?

Are you using any kind of Internet Software sharing program? (i.e. Internet Connection Sharing within Windows)

Do you have the latest drivers for your Radeon?

(When you do get your GeForce, make sure you get the latest video drivers from www.nvidia.com)

I forget if Windows 98 SE has tracert, if so, does a tracert from the old machine, which works, look ok as compared to a tracert from the new machine, which is screwy.

i.e. any high ping times, etc?

Otherwise, yes I agree, it is very weird. What kind of router?

go to

run
type in msconfig
hit enter

remove al unneeded background tast from your startup tab you can get a good list of what is needed and what isn't from here:

next go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools

run the tweak test and download and install DrTCP. set the MTU for your network card, and dial up to 1500 and the Rwin to 260000

reboot your computer

re run tweak test and change your Rwin to the suggested level and MTU to the suggested levels (to the Maximum packet sent(MTU):xxxx).

Win 98 does have tracert.
Also, make sure you're running in DirectDraw 2D mode, and not 3d. Checking your virtual memory might be helpful, maybe add more.
Also, what speed and type of processor do you have in those systems?
