Diablo II get frozen when I play in battle.net

The game stops in battle.net and tcp/ip,when I play a single player it works perfectly, but when I'm in internet it stops after some time, the screen get frozen repeating again and again the last sound and I can only exit restarting the pc. card:mad:

I have a Pentium III
256 MB RAM
HARD DISK 30GB
GE FROCE 2 MX 32 MB
Mother board Via Apollo pro 133A
Sound card Via AC'97
Direct X 8.1
Windows ME 4.90
ADSL internet conection (256 kbps)
I have the latest drivers of the mother board and the graphic

First check that your system isn't overheating, looping sound is a pretty good indicator that your video/CPU have overheated and shut down. Try running without the case on, or with a fan blowing inside.
You should also change your video mode to directdraw 2D if it's currently in Direct3D to reduce heat and improve performance of the game.

Thank for your attention swilo,

I try to play the game without the sound on battle.net and the game goes perfect, but when I go out to the chat room the game suffer the same problem (I think is something about the sound, because i can't stop the music of the chat).

When I play on battle.net with the sound activated the game gets frozen (the screen get frozen and repeating again and again the last sound)and I can only exit restarting the pc.
If I play the game without the sound goes perfect, but when I go out to the chat, the game suffer the same problem.(because the sound of the battle.net chat can´t be disabled.
I think is something about the sound card or a sound archive of the game. My sound card is a VIA AC'97 integrated on a via apollo pro 133A mother board.
It only success when I play with this game in internet .

Please stick to one thread.

Your CD might be corrupted. To turn off the music, press CTRL+M in the chat rooms.

If you only have Diablo II original installed, try copying the D2Music.mpq file from your PlayDisk CD to your Diablo II directory.

You could also try installing the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers from here.

Another possibility would be to upgrade your sound drivers from here. Ask if you need any help identifying the right driver for you.

If all fails, we could try updating your BIOS. It worked wonders for me, especially for a VIA based motherboard.

I have the newest drivers of my mother board and sound card, but the problem continue

Thank you for your attetion,
but I have installed the latest drivers of my sound card and the motherboard, and I have Diablo II with the expansion Lod (the problem I have is in the two versions. Diablo II original and Lod)

Updating your BIOS could be risky buisness.

Try reinstalling your sound drivers first.

For now, get the following information and post it here.

The first screen shown when you turn on your computer shows codes similar to these.

Exemple :

Top of the screen
FP-KT133+ A07 03/12/2001

Bottom of the screen
03/12/2001 - 8363 - 686A/B - 6A6LMJ19C - 00

Press the "Pause - Break" key so you have enough time to write them down.

Once you get these codes, I'll be able to assist you further.

Bios Info

Top of the sreen: A6309MS V3.4 021901
Bottom of the screen: 62-0219-000000-00101111-071595-V694V686-1V133001-F

Good job. Give me some time and I'll post back here with detailed instructions. Expect my post tommorow at 5PM Eastern Time. I know that may seem like a long time, but I want to do this carefully. As I said before, updating the BIOS is risky buisness.

Edit : According to the code you posted, your motherboard is made by Vobis. That company is not from the US judging by their site. To be sure of the information you posted, I will ask you to download and run this program which will make it easier on us. Just post the results here. (OEM and URL and the most important, you can forget about the others for the time being) Open the CTBios.exe file which will post all valuable information. It even posted my motherboard maker's web site. Very useful.

I've seen this problem with defective memory (ummm defective memory causes a lot of weird stuff by the way which is why I'm always saying this)
try the GoldMemory program here: http://www.goldmemory.cz to test the RAM. It's a little tricky to run, but look at the instructions on the site. It takes a fair bit of time as well.

Updating the BIOS is completely harmless as long you don't screw it up... =/

That's true. I have not thought it could be a bad ram case... Even if it is, it's always a good idea to keep your BIOS up to date.

How often does the Trending Content box refresh?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Also, in the last template there was a seperation between sticky threads and regular threads in the forum
  • Ghan Ghan:
Not sure. It's probably part of a cron job.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hey Ghan, whatever cron job its part of its not running its been the same for days. If it does not work can we remove it?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    LOL! A tweak job!
  • The Helper The Helper:
this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Next on the punch list: Update the server to Ubuntu 24.04.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:
oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity
