Did we land on the moon?

There are people that claim the U.S. didn't not land on the moon at some or all of the Apollo moon landings. Their arguments range, from impossible things seen in the video, odd photos and on to the belief that NASA's technology wasn't advanced enough and so on. What was the U.S.'s motive? To beat the Soviets in the space race.

Do you believe that the U.S. landed on the moon or not? If not, did it ever, if so, when? How can one explain the facts given in the articles?

Here is a list of articles/sites regarding the topic, be sure to check it out:
Short presentation , Wikipedia, The Great Moon Hoax, Did We Land On The Moon?, MoonHoax.

Debate away! :)

I started doubting it when I saw a video of americans on the moon.
They put a flag there and it was waving in the wind.
I don't think it's possible to have wind on the moon.

As well as this, I've heard that during 'night' on the moon, it would be extremely cold. Much too cold for suits like that to keep them warm. They would literally freeze.

And during the day, it would be very, very hot. Enough to burn them alive.

Don't quote me on any of this though. I haven't read any articles, and I haven't got reliable sources. (Although I might just read something now).

They rotated the flag so it kept waving for a few seconds, looked like a breeze.

Fact is that some of the Moon landing pictures are much better than one would expect them to be considering it happened almost 40 years ago - notice how good the colors and lighting is on this one for instance (purposely taken from wikimedia and not from a conspiracy theory site). This could at the very least imply that they were later edited - to what degree we can't know, but it would in fact mean that we don't have the original pictures (think: "pics or it didn't happen" law :p).

It's also somewhat odd that NASA hasn't planned a moon landing since '72, but there are many possible explanations for that (lack of funds, no actual reason to go again).

All in all, my stand is that we've been on the Moon, but not as many times as it is often claimed. Namely the Apollo 11 landing was most likely faked to ensure victory in the space race.

Some serious funny stuff is going on with the Moon Landing stuff. I can't say it did not happen but many of the official videos are still ridiculous. I still do not buy the BS they say about the Radiation not being a factor.

I'm pretty sure that if that picture SFilip posted actually happened, they would all fry.
Remember the moon hasn't got an atmosphere. So it's way below freezing at night, and very hot during the day. (Day/Night for the moon)

Which is probably why their original suits cost over nine million dollars each?

Many believe in these conspiracies because they are far more interesting in the Truth. In my science class last year, we did see the videos on the Hoax. Then we saw videos from NASA and other Scientist proving how all the hoax theories are wrong. For me, I can't say which is true or not.

But my reason for doubting that the moon landing was a hoax is: Do you know how many people worked on the Apollo Project?
This isn't some small group of elite generals and military personnel. There were thousands of scientist, engineers, mechanics, ground personnel, etc. The fact that the government could keep that many people quiet for 40+ years and be able to spend that much money producing no result. Is highly unrealistic, which is why I believe the hoax is false and Man did really land on the moon.

That is one of the best quotes I've ever read in these debates.

If thats a real arguement against this, wouldnt that mean every space walk we've done would be fake too?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/Prokudin-Gorskii-12.jpg dated 1915 and that's not by a camera paid for by NASA.
It's just the digital cameras that suck ;)

Another thing about the freezing stuff:
Sure, space is cold but it also is mostly made of vacuum (lol, "made of vacuum") which is the best insulator that exists. My unprofessional guess it that heat from the sunlight is a bigger problem than cold from the space.

The sun is not going to burn you at all unless you are very close it that you accumulate too much radiation. Space is kind of a vacume minus all the crap floating around in it but it is only a few degrees above absolute zero and it takes alot of radiation to heat that up. A planet gets hot because it has massive amounts of gases that are heated and is enclosed aka atmosphere.

As for the flag moving, it was very real. As one mentioned above one of the astronauts simply rotated the flagpole back and fourth to give it a wavering feeling and not just some old boring half floated look.

Not really.
The sun heats the planets.
The Earth's atmosphere traps the heat to keep as warm at night, and also reflects some heat back into space, so we don't all burn.

I guess so.

Every single controversial anomaly that the skeptics have squandered has been proven scientifically.

Anyone who still believes this landing was fake, also believes that the world is flat and that Sarah Palin is intelligent.

I hate Americans, but I think they did land on the moon.

The flag was not waving because of the wind. It was because it was a vacuum and there was nothing to weaken the kinetic energy inside the flag.

Mythbusters proved that point with quite a success...

About his "the moon should be hot thingy?"

Well, I am 14 and I can safely say that the reason why the moon isn't hot is because there's no air in it.

You need air to have temperature. Well, except for pure coldness.

Am I right?

BTW, don't be rude, mistakes happen, beliefs end up wrong and ect.

No. If you are in space and in sunlight it's pretty damn hot, and out of the sunlight it's pretty damn cold. That's why we spend billions making the shields that cope with both. The carbon in our air captures most of the heat, while the Ozone is keeping the earth from being scorched, which is why the issue of global warming comes up, not cooling.

Vicboy, have you ever wondered why in the city it is hot and in the mountain it is cold? The sun rays heat the ground. The ground it the heat sourse, not the air. That is all there is to it. Also without air there isn't anything what can keep the heat for a longer time. + technology back then sucked. I am not sure.

I want to say yes, but a voice deep in my heart is telling me that this is a this is a lie.

Then again this can be just me.

Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
