Displaying variables within Skill

How do I display a variable within a skill. I don't see this discussed in the Variable tutorials.

To be more specific - I want the player to be able to mouse-over his skill, and have it show the contents of the "Tooltip - Normal - Extended" field. And these contents should include a variable.

(I know this is possible because I noticed it today in DOTA) (the Shadow Lord has a skill where he gains increased damage by killing units - when you mouse-over that skill it actually shows you the current bonus (a variable))

i though that there was sumthing like <data3934> but im not sure. though queston, rad, is it possible???

that will just make it go to anouther number in the object editor, witch also does not let you put vars. in it... :o

Its not possible just make like 60 levels of skill and make it so when you kill a unit set your total amount to a interger then jsut change level of that 60 levl skill to interger, and instead of trypin 60 levels jsut go Auto fill levels and click ok and all number will change to 1-60

Eh to many smileys, anyways

<A001,DataA1>
A001 is the raw data ability name, each one is different. Custom ones have 001, 002 etc. DataA1 is generally the damage in most abilities, but every single one is different. Just hit CTRL+D to view as raw data, the abilities may say A001,AHmt. That just means the ability name is A001, and the ability its based off of is AHmt.

Makes it easy for autofill levels, because DataA1, when filled starting at level 1, will make level 2 DataA2, dataA3 etc.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Heres what I'm tryin to do : display a variable within the skill. But its not one of the fields. Its a custom variable. Like say I have a variable of type Real and it is called "SpellDamage".

Can I do something like "<SpellDamage>" in my field to display the contents of that variable? (I know its not exactly that because I just tried it)

This has to be what they are doing in DOTA. For the ShadowLord's skill - you gain +2 damage everytime you kill a unit. If you have +4 damage already, and you mouse over the skill, you see "Current Bonus : 4" or something like that. And if you kill another unit, and mouse over the skill again, it says "Current Bonus : 6".

So yea... any ideas?

Thanks!

My guess is he has many premade abilities that give a bonus to damage.

For example he has premade a +2 damage skill, a +4 damage skill, etc.

He can then remove and add skills as needed to achieve the desired damage bonus.

Or alternatively as mentioned above, one skill with many levels. This will accomplish what is found in dota.

dont they create a new tool-tip for every level, no i dont get what your talking about, but i though that they made a new tooltip for every level, and then they just type in the "variables" in the tool-tip.

Yes it is possible that they have 30 different skills (or 30 different levels of the skill).

I *hope* that is not what is going on though. All of my skills use variables for the result, and they are entirely open-ended (infinite).

So I'm hoping there is a way to insert a variable into the Skill display.

not unless theres some funky way of doing it like |cf00f0f|r and |n lol but it'd be something like |v probably if there is, just mess around with things like that

Like Bird described in a PM it would probrably be something like <Variable>... maybe <Var,VariableName> but I doubt it works anyway

lol thought so... that would have been nice if it was possible to do though

Guys just a heads up I am going to be shutting the site down soon. I am just waiting on the NUON people to decide whether they want to transfer forum data and keep the discord. My email is [email protected] for anyone that wants to keep in touch and I have a facebook too. I will make an official post later. Love you guys and will miss everyone!

Oh no - please don't lose the Nuon content

  • The Helper The Helper:
Someone email AtariAge and see if they want me to transfer the forum data over to it
  • Ghan Ghan:
Could probably keep NUON stuff around here if we wanted.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Hmm what to do about the World Editor site though?
  • Stephen Stephen:
I'd rather personally just own a backup of the Nuon data than see it go to AtariAge honestly. If it gets enshittified as per usual, or if some of the "regular" Jaguar folks get there, it's not gonna be fun
  • The Helper The Helper:
There will be a github of the forum data so the NUON Forum Data I guess would be available there
  • The Helper The Helper:
World Editor is technically Ryoko stuff not mine you guys can keep that I am not in that even
  • jonas jonas:
:( end of an era :(
  • The Helper The Helper:
Dont think of it as an end jonas - think of it as a beginning, because really my friend that is what it is.
  • A Andyoyo:
Thank you for the hard work over the years. It did not go unnoticed.
