Exactly. The water will still be stored and the solar power would be very unaffective due to the fact that you are moving further away from the sun and that the suns rays are very weak at were the space ship is. The future would probably increase the speed ships move at, not make food grow in the ship. You would also need a couple of vegetarians for the flight who have nothing to do for 2 months.

there is this new engine made which shortens the time taken to reach mars into just like a week or something. So no need to worry about that now.

oh and talking about why aliens will never be able to reach us is because as the universe is ever expanding at the speed of light. Even if the alien travel over the speed of light (which theoretically speaking will cause it to go back in time) it will never be able to reach us in enough time of maybe a few million generations(depending on where their location is though).

Its 1 week with robots. Human weight would still make it much much much longer than it is with robots.

Excess weight on the ship. I read it somewhere on wikepedia. Thats why it didn't take so long for the shuttle last year or so to land on mars. Its also because the ship doesn't need so much more space for people making the ship smaller therefore reducing its weight by quite a bit.

Yes there is weight in space. There is no friction in space. These are 2 different things.

Not really. Friction is what creates weight; there's mass in space.

Not really, you're constantly falling basically. If there was friction the ship would be torn apart. There isn't an atmosphere, there aren't a bunch of particles that it's running into it.

There is no weight in space, only mass.

obviously you havnt got your science lesson on space otherwise you would know that there is no weight BUT the mass of the object is still there.

since there is no gravity in space there is no weight.

i would probably put it as traveling very quickly.. instead of falling ;)

There is no friction in space
umm.. wrong?

Friction is a product of a perpendicular force and the frictional constant of an object.

on earth, the perpendicular force is mainly gravity, but it can be anything.
frictional constant is independent of mass/weight etc.. it's due to the composition of the object.

Friction is what creates weight

Weight is acceleration due to gravity X mass.

Weight is only a problem here on earth. it's a problem because more weight means it's harder to escape earth's gravitational pull to enter space.

There's no air, so there's no friction from air, no resistance to moving around freely. However, other kinds of friction still exist, like when two things slide against each other, although if you are in orbit or otherwise feel no acceleration then these things have no weight and don't press against each other like sliding a box across a floor here on Earth. Unless debris or something something hits you there's no friction.

  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
