Hello!

I'm currently doing a little bit of research regarding minimum wages and the cost of food in different countries and therefore need your help!

How you can help me out? It's simple: just post your country and the (average) prices of the food items from the list below in your local currency. You don't have to fill all the information, but the more, the better.
Your country:
If possible, the city you live in:
Loaf of bread (usually 500-700g):
A litre of milk:
A package of cheese (usually around 200g):
A Big Mac meal:
1kg of potatoes:

NOTE: My research is mainly focused on European Union member countries, but you can still post if you live elsewhere (especially USA, Australia, China etc.)

European Union member countries:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_State_of_the_European_Union

Thanks in advance!

These results will not be used commercially etc., they're just used for my own "amusement".

I'm not sure what all of them are, but I know a few of them.

City/Country: Bradford/England
Loaf of bread: Average is about £1.25, last time I checked. We bought one last night that was 89p but it was only 350g.
A litre of milk: We go by pints, 2 pints is just over a litre, costs about 75p on average.

Unfortunately I can't answer the last three as they are not things I myself commonly purchase :)
Also, these prices will probably increase the further south you go.

Loaf of bread: About 1 USD
Gallon of milk About 1 USD (so I think litre is smaller so would be less)
Package of cheese: About 2+ USD
A Big Mac meal: About 5 USD
1kg of potatoes: o.o I love potatoes.

I shall update if wrong since those are just estimates from the last time I went shopping, which is awhile back.
And these are probably the average cheapest. :3

Well I honestly have no idea.
Google maps says I'm about 1-2 hours away, but I'm not sure how accurate that would be.

If it helps though, I live in Meridian, Mississippi.

Loaf of bread (usually 500-700g): $1.00 for a simple loaf
A litre of milk: $2.50 for a gallon, so about $.80 cents? (also make sure everyone else form the U.S. gives you the price per liter and not gallon)
A package of cheese (usually around 200g): no clue
A Big Mac meal: don't know
1kg of potatoes: see above

also i thought I would add the gas prices, since I think those would be interesting, gas here is about $2.80 per gallon for basic unleaded, diesel is a bit more expensive

also worth noting that the bread in the U.S. is crap, real bread starts costing about $3.00 for a decent sized baguette, compared to the same baguette in France for about 0.80 euro (I have a friend over from France atm, this is what she says, but I agree with the crappy bread part)

also minimum wage for the university that I work at is $9.00 for people over 18, but in the U.S. it's 7.25/hr, what's it like in Europe?

Thanks for the replies so far!

Well, I have some statistics about the minimal wages in countries etc. and I can contrast them quite well, but it doesn't really tell me something until I put the wages into context. For example, the minimum wage by law in Bulgaria is around 122 and in Ireland 1500 euros, but it's also more expensive to live in the latter country. That's why I'm conducting this (rather superficial and unprofessional, but still) query.
