The rumors and speculation can cease. Valve is making Dota 2, we've played it, and it's already amazing even though it's not coming out until next year. And we haven't yet laid eyes on Dota 2's biggest innovation: a radical approach to integrating the game's community back into the gameplay itself.

While most of the time, we don't allow Dota Threads, this one has actual relevance to something else besides the Map. So just keep it to the discussion of this Game, and don't begin starting a debate on the map DotA.

So any idea why there's no news on this besides that Q&A with icefrog?

Wouldn't they at least put out a couple of screenshots by this time?

AFAIK (first time I've used that), there's been no new news updates of the game past October 13, its initial release.

I don't know if this is official or not, but: http://www.dota2.com/

If there's anything new, I guess it'll be there.

That is official and I've read it. I'm wondering WHY they aren't giving out any news. Seems strange.

Perhaps they're going through some legal battles with the Dota trademark.

Yea the first DotA wasn't made by IceFrog, he made "DotA - Allstars"

Guinsoo and Eon made the first dota iirc, but the first doata was uh... how to say, SHIT, CRAP FUCKED UP AND BORING MAP.

IceFrog really turned it into the world wide phenomenon that consumed the wc3 melee world and turned the comunity into little brats that rage over a death, or a misclick.

Don't get me wrong, I played Dota for 2 years straight, I had a clan and we have won not just 1 or 2 clan wars.... in the end I stopped because my life was... like, literally 80% of my non school time into Dota and the other 20% were for studying and going out.

I am not exited for the upcomming Dota, I have given up on AoS games, but it will be one of the most anticipated games of the upcomming year.

Also, I gotta say, Morfling hasn't look soo good, looks amazing so far (from the 4 avaliable screenshots)

I'm disappointed that Icefrog is not planning on changing much. So basically its LoL or HoN with the current DotA's heroes and items...

If they can make the matchmaking process decent, so that there's no more of this pubstomping bullcrap, I'd be happy. As a side effect hopefully this will improve the DotA community in general.

Also, I hope they do not implement any P2P systems that will give little kids with mommy's credit cards an advantage over others like myself who just play casually for fun. ---> They probably will, however. Money is a big motivator.

The whole purpose is to improve the community and matchmaking, and make big profits off of it. Smart of Valve to do so as they automatically have a great concept handed to them and do not have to worry about lack of interest in the game.

I expect them to keep some sort of "free play" so that you can play with your friends no matter how different in rank you are. It is there where there will be pub stomping. I'm sure rated games will be more interesting and fun.

Expect me to be a coach. Can't wait to do that to help out my fellow DotA'ians. ;)

Are all the stats/systems going to be different; they said skills, items, and paths are the same but what about the actual values of them? Well I mean in terms of balancing. Since we all know how well it was in DotA.

DotA'ians, ha, that sound strange. DotAcans?

I'm sure they'll keep it the same as the last version(s) of DotA for Warcraft III (you know, if they update the pricings later they'll change prices on the newer version).

I can't wait till Blizzard releases thier DOTA and Valve comes to the realization that there is now way they can compete with the talent and experience of Blizzard.

Valve DOTA will fail. Icefrog stood on the shoulders of geniuses.
Starting from scratch will be a completely new reality.

Not really. It's the same exact game on a new engine. Can't mess it up.

I'll agree with this. The Game Informer guy that went to try it said it felt exactly like the original and that he was a big fan of the original as well. Gonna have to go with that guy's view over your's, Bud.

I don't think Blizzard is actually going to put that much work theirs. Its just a custom map, partially just meant for supplying map makers with futuristic models. Its not sticking very close to the original DotA, and I doubt they will update it very much.

DotA 2 has 3 big things going for it:
1. Its a stand-alone game and will likely be supported better. (Realistically, blizzards is only a mod and will never get game-level support even if it is updated. Either way, the SC2 team will need to be working on both of the Sequels first)
2. Its made by Valve. (Mainly good for it becuase Valve is so well known - this will help it vs HoN\LoL more than Blizzard DotA)
3. Its following the original DoTa very closely and has Icefrog on the team, gaining majority support from the current DotA fan base, even if he is no great developer.

I don't think it will, but Valves DoTa could fail. Either way, I don't really see theirs and Blizzards "competing" with each other.

This time for real you only get an HD dota.

It will be the new thing because it is a pretty dota, but nothing that can shake the dominance of SCII, CS and CoD in the competitive E-sports.

that sucks i bet they are expensive
  • Varine Varine:
    Not really
  • Varine Varine:
The entire hot end is like 20 dollars, I just can't get anymore until next week
  • Varine Varine:
I ordered like five blocks for 15 dollars. They're just little aluminum blocks with holes drilled into them
  • Varine Varine:
They are pretty much disposable. I have shitty nozzles though, and I don't think these were designed for how hot I've run them
  • Varine Varine:
I tried to extract it but the thing is pretty stuck. Idk what else I can use this for
  • Varine Varine:
I'll throw it into my scrap stuff box, I'm sure can be used for something
  • Varine Varine:
I have spare parts for like, everything BUT that block lol. Oh well, I'll print this shit next week I guess. Hopefully it fits
  • Varine Varine:
I see that, despite your insistence to the contrary, we are becoming a recipe website
  • Varine Varine:
    Which is unique I guess.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Actually I was just playing with having some kind of mention of the food forum and recipes on the main page to test and see if it would engage some of those people to post something. It is just weird to get so much traffic and no engagement
  • The Helper The Helper:
So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
