DOTA should have its own MPQ archive...

Now, don't hate me for this, but its just an idea that sprang up in my head.

DOTA is currently 3.4 MB from imports especially like the loading screen.

So it's practically insane to let people download in games.

But with a MPQ archive of the models, skins and the loading screen, you'll reduce the dota map to somewhere like 500 KB...

And IceFrog can obviously expand the DOTA by 50 megabytes because the MPQ archive will hold those.

So Blizzard should add in their next patch, a DOTA.MPQ, and all IceFrog needs to do is path the DOTA files from the MPQ, which is external from the map. You can finally play a map that could have been 50 MB, now 1 MB in multiplayer!

"You could say, why DOTA??? Since when did DotA deserve this?"

DotA obviously got Warcraft sales more popular than ever. Did your map cause people to buy Warcraft?

My friend gave me his additional Warcraft disc because he wanted to play DotA with me... He didn't give it so we could play Real Life for Morons...

What do you think?

When was the last time I played DotA? Three months ago...

The last time I played DotA in more than 4 days in a week? Never...

Just stating something that will help dota players out there.

Warcraft != DotA
if DotA == Warcraft
{
call UninstallGame()
}

There are many other great maps. Just because a lot of people play DotA, it doesn't mean that they should change the whole game to suit it.

Sure it does. DotA is played more than every single other map added up all together, every single day. It should come with the game, or at least be officially supported.

They won't change Warcraft.

It's just DOTA and DOTA has done much for Blizzard to help them.

I don't see how DotA has helped Blizzard in any way. Honestly, I don't think anyone purchased wc3 just to play DotA (not to mention they wouldn't have much of an idea of what DotA is before buying wc3).

imo, DotA is balanced and everything, but it's kinda boring. Also, people should just download it from getdota, no MPQ files needed.

My classmates didn't buy Warcraft because they wanted to play maps over battle.net

They bought warcraft to play dota...

Almost everyone in my school did from what I remember.

1. It is DotA not DOTA.
2. Stuff DotA, Starcraft II :)
3. I think Blizzard maybe more focused on fixing that JASS bug or something.
4. I don't really think they need to make a MPQ for it... 3.4 MB is fine... and I don't think IceFrog would find enough things to reach up to 50MB. If he did, it'd be a hell long wait for the next version.
5. Besides, who downloads in-game, www.getdota.com

Just because you have more space doesn't mean you need to have more time in making it. You can leave models, textures and sounds decompressed and let the MPQ handle it.
5. Besides, who downloads in-game, www.getdota.com

Not my main point, but if this happens, then we'll also be generous enough to let people download.

Ok.... then we'd have to wait for Blizzard to release something like that and either way, what point is there posting on TheHelper.net? DotA is fine the way it is?

MPQ is used locally, I don't want to play a custom game having "DotA addons on my screen" :|

Epic words of wisdom there.

Yeah, you forgot to read the words inside the quote in the message: a.

I replied inside the quote, so don't think everything is intentionally unnecessary.

For revolver, you don't need to. :rolleyes:

ok.. so whats so special about DotA, its an AoS, wow. And, from what ive heard, its item centered, which is really stupid imo. Maybe id see more of my favorite games if DotA wasnt hosted so many people. And now people are coming from like The other side of the earth to play DotA on the EASTERN USA. They have this like uber bad delay, what is the point of that?

From what you've heard? Try playing it before saying it's stupid. I don't like it, but I have played it a few times.

Your post is centered on... hating DotA?

You are so wrong when you say what's so special about DotA.

    How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
    The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
    I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
    Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
    Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
    And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
    These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
    Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
    Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
    That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
    I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
    I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

    I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
    I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
