double posts

I haven't been able to find any reference to double posting in any rules, did I miss something?

I've noticed that a lot of new users have double posted and was wondering if they hadn't read the forum rules, then I searched and didn't find anything mentions. I thought they were discouraged.

From what I understand, it is discouraged, but it's not a really big deal unless you double post by adding something irrelevant or stupid, or something that can be added to your first post via "edit" button.

In other words, if you double post, it better be for a good reason or a bump! As far as I know, there is a 24-hour minimum required waiting period before bumping a thread.

how are new members supposed to know that?

everything besides bumps can be added via bumps.

That's probably as close as you get. However, it is not like we hammer people with huge -rep or bans if they double post once. Sure, if they keep doing it after we inform them, but generally we're pretty nice.*
