Could it be that there is some kind of restriction against sending emails unless you're on the right connection? Let me give you all an example:

I have an E-mail adress that I obtained from my University. I can check this mail at home, but I can't send any emails from this adress unless I'm on the University's IP-range. They recommend that I use my ISP's SMTP server if I'm going to send any e-mails from this adress unless I use their connection. This was a huge problem back when I didn't use my Uni as my ISP. I always had to use the E-mail adress that came with my former ISP, instead of the one I wanted to use, the one my Uni got for me.

So, if this is the problem, there might not be a way to solve it at all. Though, if you're sure that one of the addresses seems to work fine, contact the Tiscali customer support, and tell them to delete that previous account that has an error in it.

That's what I thought... but do I understand correctly that a modem is being used to dial in to the same ISP from either location?

In that case, as long as the internet connection is working....everything should work fine. The ISP would have to have some very weird settings in order for the mail server to restrict you based on the phone number you are calling from. I mean, its possible but I'm not sure what the point is.

You might want to try making sure that you have your log in name on the servers set to your full email address (with the @tiscali.co.uk in it... some servers require that.) If it already has that, try just the username.

The SMTP server might require authentication-- there should be a checkbox in OE's Account settings to set this up. Tell it to use the same as the Incoming (POP) server.

But I'm a bit confused as to what the phone number has to do with any of this.

the phone nuymber is relevant ebcause he is logging in form 2 different locations, and one of the you have to dial an outside line form. His original account won't work on the dial 9 to get outside number line, but the new one will, even though they have the same details.
