Ok here is another tip---On some xp/2000 systems by default, support for Ultra DMA 66 or DMA 100 is not enabled. The registry settings below will enable Ultra DMA 66.
Edit the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0 000 key and add a new DWORD value called EnableUDMA66 or EnableUDMA100 with a value of 1.
