Error: "data differs from server"

Error: "data differs from server" comes up when I try to run a LAN game btwn two computers using the same copy of 1942 (as well as expansions).
Is this a cd-key problem?
The connection is fully working, and the server shows up on the server list under a local area game, it starts loading up, then comes up with the error.
Any suggestions anyone?
p.s the OS are different, (xp and Win2000), does that matter?

hmm, I saw on another post that says it has to do with using the cracked exes, that sucks big time.
Does anyone know how to modify the verification checker so it allows craked exe versions to connect together?

I HATE THAT STOO PID ERROR!! i know i cannot get a LAN started for the life of me without that error..and I do not have any cracks installed, and i try and reinstall the patch which never helps. The only way I can fix it is if I reinstall both games on both computers which is ridiculous. Is this bug that EA cannot adress?

I had that data differs problem and fixed it ....the answer is in the following link...basically you have to stop content checking for the server.
