EYE OF THE SPIDER

You and a band of archeologists are on a perilous quest to unveil a hidden temple under the Icecrown Ridge. According to ancient lore, this temple was dedicated to Xarabe, an arachnid demon. It was said one of his eight eyes was in fact an enchanted gemstone, capable of transforming any material into solid gold. This legendary artifact has been described in scrolls as the eye of the spider. Countless expeditions to excavate it have failed, further shrouding the eye in deep mystery...

UPDATE: Download the test map on the bottom of this thread. Any feedback is welcome!

In this map, you explore a secret temple indiana jones style! solve puzzles, dodge boobytraps and find ancient relics to aid you on your quest for a treasure beyond measure: the eye of the spider! The map is explored in levels. Each level contains a different kind of quest to test your wits. They don't particulary range from easy to hard, but they do grow larger (and thus take longer to complete). Unlike other riddle maps, this one isn't focused on bizzare riddles or makes-no-sense logics. There is also no giant Illidan somewhere named "puzzle master" which you have to click three times only for him to kill you saying "Ist you a Retard?!" -.-

So what DOES this game offer?
-Random riddles everytime you play!
-Not a single riddle is copy/pasted from other maps or google
-Some puzzles and mazes have random paths everytime you play!
-The game can be played with any amount of players. (although more brawn and brain is better)
-Easy to use zoom in and zoom out camera ability
-Are you sick of using a "talk to npc" ability in these kinds of maps? None of all that garbage with a unique system! A simple (left)CLICK on something, will tell you all you need to know.
-In other games, everytime an ally treasurehunter reads a tome or scroll the whole screen would clutter up with text. Boring! Text is reduced too essential epxlanations.
-Also, only the player who actually needs the information will SEE the text, other adventurers can continue unhindered! Already read a hint or wanna read it again? Don't annoy or be annoyed by allies.

START
The map is suppose to be multiplayer, but it can be done on your own. In that case, your expedition starts with a sad news...

screen1eee.jpg

LEVEL 1: The gate
You discovered the entrance of Xarabe's temple, but obviously the door is shut. Can you open it?

screenlvl1.jpg

LEVEL 2: The river
You entered the temple, but by doing so triggered an ancient defensive system. Only by finding well hidden runes and solving a mastermind like puzzle can the underground river be crossed.

screenlvl2.jpg

LEVEL 3: The guardians of the eye
You have entered the inner sanctum of Xarabe's temple, which is cleverly defended not with brawn but by brain. Solve riddles, enter the halls of infinity and don't get lost!

screenlvl3.jpg

LEVEL 4: The keys
Another challenge awaits! A familiar foe from level 2 returns, but in various shapes and colors. Explore over 6 different areas in search for the keys to open the last gate. Full of puzzles, you'll need patience for this level.

screenlvl4.jpg

INTERLUDE: The eye of the spider
You found the fabled eye! Patt yourself on the back for an excellent excavation, but uh-oh... are those gleaming eyes in the darkness... spiders?

screen5o.jpg

LEVEL 5: The escape
Traps and spiders lurk around every corner... Try to escape as quickly as possible. Make good use of the eye of the spider, but don't slow your pace!

The map is 99% finished. With your feedback I can make it 100% ;)

Some comments:
Overall the map seems really nice. I must give you some compliments on your very original forest terrain. Even though it's not that special, it really catched my attention. A + for that. The dungeon terrain, however, could use some tune up, but it's fine for the moment.
Level 1 is TOO HARD! I spent 17 minutes looking for that friggin toolkit. I ended up loading the editor and checking the triggers. After looking in every region where it could spawn ingame, I still didn't find it and gave up. - for that, you might want to add hints, like footsteps or something, or you could just make it a little more visible by like removing trees or adding some weather effect or something.
The name of the game is really good, imo. +
The overall feel of the game is good, and something made me look for that toolkit the entire time. +

Hmm, more +'es than -'es. Good job! Keep it up.

P.S., you might want to add spoiler tags to the levels in your post, because some people don't want to know what they're facing.:p

If you need any help, do tell!

So what it really is me trying to implement some kind of better site navigation not change the whole theme of the site
  • Varine Varine:
How can you tell the difference between real traffic and indexing or AI generation bots?
  • The Helper The Helper:
The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

  • The Helper The Helper:
Another bot invasion 493 members online most of them bots that do not show up on stats
  • Varine Varine:
I'm looking at a solid 378 guests, but 3 members. Of which two are me and VSNES. The third is unlisted, which makes me think its a ghost.

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
