I'm putting the second one first.

I have a bunch of 'melee' towers. They have range, of course, but they're supposed to be melee units, like 'Skeletal Warrior,' for instance. I'm wondering what attack animation models you guys can think of that would be good for these units. The "Units - Missiles \ Warden, Maiev" model is an excellent one, for instance. The hammer that Gryphon Riders throw is also a good model for this situation, and I'll probably use it for my tower that has a Mountain King model.
So, what models do you guys think would be good for melee-themed towers that actually have range?

I am working on my td, and the towers for one race are more undead-y than anything else, so I chose the smallest undead ubersplat I could find for the patch of ground they stand on. (I use a lot of unit-models standing in place as towers). It's too big, of course, as the smallest _real_ undead building is a Ziggurat, which is 3x3. Two towers with this ubersplat, when placed next to each other, have overlapping splats and look unprofessional. So, I have these two options, as I see it.
I can try to make a custom ubersplat, which would basically just be the 3x3 undead ubersplat squeezed down by a factor of 1.5 in each direction. Can I import it, an use it? I'm afraid I can't, as the splat selection menu doesn't have a field for custom files. I could make one, and throw it into the mpq, right? But then I'd have a 1-megabyte map, which is no good.
Or, I can try to use blight. If each tower creats a 100-unit radius of blight, it would not be too terribly big. Anyway, I'd do this with an edit to the "blight creation" abilities that accompany undead buildings. Does this work? Is the first option
Failing these two, I'll leave it as it is, or put them down with no splat. Niether would be very good.
One more:
3. How did they make the maim ability for the Sange weapon in DotA? I could use something like that.
