Filesonic, one of the Internet’s leading cyberlocker services, has taken some drastic measures following the Megaupload shutdown and arrests last week. In addition to discontinuing its affiliates rewards program and not yet paying accrued money to members, the site has disabled all sharing functionality, leaving users only with access to their own files.

To users of systems like BitTorrent, file-sharing means just that – the sharing of files with others. But this weekend users of Filesonic, one of the Internet’s leading cyberlocker services, sharing files is currently a thing of the past.

According to a shock announcement by the site, all file-sharing functionality has now been disabled, leaving current users only with access to files that they have personally uploaded. Many hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of links all around the web have now been rendered useless, at least temporarily.

But the bad news for the site’s users doesn’t end there. In the last few hours, before file-sharing was disabled, Filesonic also ended its rewards program, meaning that uploaders to the site no longer earn money when people download their files. A moot point perhaps, since no-one will be downloading files anyway.

Kind of retarded. Filesonic is too scared that they will be sued is all. It's a pure lie to say that file sharing is a thing of the past. It's a thing of the future hence the Cloud type storages going on right now which is huge money.

Anyways I don't see a reason Filesonic should stop it's business like this it just doesn't seem right. Megaupload should still be in business as well, but megaupload definitely has a sketchier background and some sketchy underlings going on from what i've read-- like a fake primary share holder who made a youtube video and how it was started by an hacker.

What I think? They're over-reacting. Bullshit.
I had loads of files there, bastards. I'm just gonna switch.

I'm currently considering taking down a few Minecraft worlds from Mediafire. Looks like that site may follow along Filesonic, considering that Mediafire is also set up near Filesonic.

If this keeps up, the only place where cloud uploading is available would be Apple's iCloud and Gmail.

Anonyupload is a scam. Anonymous confirmed via their Twitter.

Also the website isn't even functional. There are loads of tabs that are meant to be links yet there is only one that works; FAQ.

Some file-sharing sites drop the sharing.

Caution is spreading among popular file-sharing services known for letting users circulate pirated Hollywood content.

FileSonic, FileServe and Uploaded.to have abruptly cut off the sharing of movies, games and other software just days after the Justice Department closed down Megaupload, the largest such site.

"It looks like the chilling effect has already started," says Dennis Fisher, editor in chief of security blog Threatpost. "Maybe one of the reasons the U.S. government is going after companies alleged to be hosting infringing content is to serve as a deterrent for others engaging in similar activity."

FBI and Department of Justice officials do not discuss ongoing investigations.

File-sharing services, also referred to as cyberlockers, enable users to easily upload, store and share large files on a server in the Internet cloud. This includes movies, music, gaming applications, software tools, multimedia presentations and the like.

It's a pretty clever tactic, actually! Hit a big site and scare the others.

Hmm, but don't you think "file sharing" will come back one day? like it always does?

I guess it will just move from the well known servers to the darker areas of the internet.

Help Users
  • No one is chatting at the moment.

The bots will show up as users online in the forum software but they do not show up in my stats tracking. I am sure there are bots in the stats but the way alot of the bots treat the site do not show up on the stats
  • Varine Varine:
I want to build a filtration system for my 3d printer, and that shit is so much more complicated than I thought it would be
  • Varine Varine:
Apparently ABS emits styrene particulates which can be like .2 micrometers, which idk if the VOC detectors I have can even catch that
  • Varine Varine:
Anyway I need to get some of those sensors and two air pressure sensors installed before an after the filters, which I need to figure out how to calculate the necessary pressure for and I have yet to find anything that tells me how to actually do that, just the cfm ratings
  • Varine Varine:
And then I have to set up an arduino board to read those sensors, which I also don't know very much about but I have a whole bunch of crash course things for that
  • Varine Varine:
These sensors are also a lot more than I thought they would be. Like 5 to 10 each, idk why but I assumed they would be like 2 dollars
  • Varine Varine:
Another issue I'm learning is that a lot of the air quality sensors don't work at very high ambient temperatures. I'm planning on heating this enclosure to like 60C or so, and that's the upper limit of their functionality
  • Varine Varine:
Although I don't know if I need to actually actively heat it or just let the plate and hotend bring the ambient temp to whatever it will, but even then I need to figure out an exfiltration for hot air. I think I kind of know what to do but it's still fucking confusing
  • The Helper The Helper:
Maybe you could find some of that information from AC tech - like how they detect freon and such
  • Varine Varine:
That's mostly what I've been looking at
  • Varine Varine:
I don't think I'm dealing with quite the same pressures though, at the very least its a significantly smaller system. For the time being I'm just going to put together a quick scrubby box though and hope it works good enough to not make my house toxic
  • Varine Varine:
I mean I don't use this enough to pose any significant danger I don't think, but I would still rather not be throwing styrene all over the air

I bitch about Xenforo sometimes but it really is full featured you just have to really know what you are doing to get the most out of it.
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is just not easy to fix styles and customize but it definitely can be done
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
