Idea time.
I wanted to upload about a gig and half of files to my sista in Florida.
We tried a couple different programs, but seem to have a lot of trouble with fire walls and ports.
I am using XP, and she is using a mac.
Most of the programs require an IP adresss and a port. I connect to the cable modem through a router. I configured a port in my routers firewall for her to communicate to.
So now, with any of these proggies, including Lime, Socketoome, messanger & MSN messanger, she can send me files all she wants. But I cant get a connection back to send her this stuff.
She has a Mac, which I don't know much about. She connects directly through a 3COM Homeconnect cable modem. It has no real configuration properties. It does not say whether or not it blocks incomming ports.
She can configure MAC to accept an incomming port as well, but I CANNOT get anything through. We killed about 3 hours on it, and was hoping someone might see something I am not. All of our IP and port settings are correct.
I wanted to try a VPN, like I do through work, but I don't know if Mac can do that, and If we would have the same connection problems.
