I posted here a couple of times regarding my lockup problem with DiabloII LOD and the 1.08 patch..I tried many fixes with no results...these are my specs.

p3 500mhz
asus p3v4x mobo (via)
sb 512
creative geforce ddr
2 nics (for ics)
creative modem blaster
ISA scsi card (for scanner)
284mb ram (1x256 2x64)
latest drivers
latest 4 in 1

My game would lock up randomly and my only option was to use the button to restart my computer.

What fixed the problem:

I had one of the nics in slot 5...i moved it

I removed the ISA scsi

I removed the 2 sticks of 64mb ram

I removed the modem (which i never used anyway cuz of DSL)

I no longer have any Diablo 2 lockups of any kind. It's ran perfectly for at least 20 hours of gameplay..

Maybe this info might help some of you..I have a feeling it was the old 64mb sticks i had or the fact that the nic card was in slot 5.

Good luck to all having problems.

Well, I wasn't going to originally post it, because I did 3 things at the same time, and one of them fixed my lockups. However, I have no clue as to which one fixed it. I posted further down, my system is:

AMD Thunderbird 900 (Not-OC'd, running below specified temperature)
ASUS A7V (Bios Rev. 1007)
256Megs of PC133 SDRam (Running below spec at PC100)
* AGP Slot: Geforce 2 MX (nVidia 12.41 drivers)
* Slot 1: Empty
* Slot 2: Empty
* Slot 3: SBLive! Value (Running drivers ONLY, none of the Liveware3 BS

)
* Slot 4: Empty
* Slot 5: LNE100TX Linksys Etherfast NIC
Windows 2000 Professional at SP2, all Windows Updates loaded.
Direct X8.0a

The three things I did at once...

I eventually narrowed my problems down to the software, or my NIC itself. As I tested all my other components and all was ok. So I decided maybe my outdated D-Link DFE530TX+ was the problem. Maybe it doesn't have very good IRQ sharing or something. It hadn't ever performed extraordinarily, so I figured hey 25 bucks for something better? How could I go wrong

1: I replaced my D-Link DFE530TX+ with the Linksys LNE100TX. My main reason for doing this was updated IRQ sharing, and a different NIC chipset, as the DFE uses a Realtek chipset and the LNE uses an Intel based one.

2: I made sure all my devices in System Properties had a driver. In my case I have an ATA100 Controller onboard, which I had no drives connected to. I just installed the driver for the heck of it.

3: An interesting little AGP hotfix for Win2K for AMD systems. This was *NOT* included in the SP2. Microsoft's description is here: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q270/7/15.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=AGP%20AMD&rnk=3&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=MSALL

And for the fix, ASUS has it on their website at: ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/asus/misc/utils/amdagp.zip

Remember, that is only for AMD systems using their AGP port, and under Windows 2000 Professional Edition.

I've been playing D2X for almost a week now, flawlessly. Even played for a marathon session a couple of days ago for like 5 or 6 hours straight. Not a single error, crash or lockup.

Hope this helps someone out there...

Ah... This last tip might show helpful for a friend of mine with some freezing problems in Win2k

    this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

    One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:

    Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
