Infants born from embryos which were frozen and then thawed before being implanted into a woman had a higher birth weight and were less likely to suffer abnormalities.

Fewer of the children were also twins or triplets.

Multiple births are known to increase the risk of complications as well as the danger to the mother.

More than 1,200 children born between 1995 and 2006 after frozen embryo replacement (FER) were studied and compared to 17,857 children born from "fresh" embryos.

How is comparing 1,200 to 17,857 going to give you good statistics? That's nearly a 1:15 ratio. Then they average it... and of COURSE the 17,857 are going to show more defects... even if you go by percentages, this study is a little on the stretchy side until they have a bit more evidence, don't you think?

Yes it Sounds wierd , they cant say Frozen embryos is better. only 1,200 children born. is not much at all. maybe they want more embryos to freeze. so they only say it's better. hmm

Well, that's based on the parents' circumstances and if there wasn't anything preventing the parents from having a child in the natural way, why should they go about using frozen embryos? So you can't really argue the 1200 vs 17587 point (unless you are talking about the "17587 is more likely to have more defects than 1200" point).

Interesting study, but can't really see how it's going to be of benefit to people, unless they want everyone to use FER when planning to have a child

But there you have Right, why use a frozen embryos. when there is frozen sperm, maybe it's only some experiment they do.

Well, if you take into account what % of parents are infertile (or anything else that may prevent them from having a child normally), and then the % of those parents who are unable to use frozen sperm (or would rather a frozen embryo), the numbers would be getting pretty small (by comparison). I don't have a clue of those figures, but I would guess that they aren't huge (i.e. no more than 40% in the first category, I would imagine, and I haven't a clue what % of those would fall into the second category. Feel free to correct me here )

Perhaps they took a random sample from both categories, and studied how many of the children from those samples had defects. But that, although a fair method for getting some information, isn't exactly accurate.

But there you have Right, why use a frozen embryos. when there is frozen sperm, maybe it's only some experiment they do.

To give people more of a choice, and to allow would-be mothers to have some 'insurance' in the event that they were no longer naturally able to have a child

Not easy to say how much %, when they not put som % of the rest category. but the like you said looks like its fair number. and Sure they have more to choice, so its good,
But looks anyway a bit wierd they say Frozen embryos is better and it is what 11 years and only 1200 birth. if they said half of the number of 17,857 from "fresh" embryos, well then I can say its better or the same.
