They fuck with the laws of maths. You can't divide by 0.

Where it says:

(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b

They are dividing boths sides by 0 (a-b, as a is the same as b).

That doesn't apply to the math problem.

Multiplication and Division is like Or and And. If you do a / b * c, you do not choose to group the two being multiplied and divide by the group b*c, you start from the left, and work to the right, which will come out to (a/b) * c.

Just like with Or and And, if you do "a and b or c", you group "(a and b) or c", not "a and (b or c)".

Seems to me you don't know basic maths, 48*12/2 is 288, it can't be 2 and where the hell did you get such a troll from anyway, the only people who can be confused with the problem are people who have no knowledge of mathematics whatsoever. And undead dragon had pointed out already the flaw in the math problem, it is fallacy, just like it is a fallacy to say:

1=sqrt(1)=sqrt( (-1)*(-1) ) = sqrt (-1) * sqrt (-1) = i*i = -1

You break the basic rules of maths, and the other post has nothing to do with the previous one. Read here if you're more interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematical_fallacy.

FYI just a quick edit regarding your problem:

x = 0
x(x-1) = 0
x - 1 = 0
x = 1

Same thing, you divided by 0, and you can't do that.

48 ÷ 2(9 + 3)=48 ÷ 2*(9 + 3)=48 ÷ 2*(12)=24*(12)=288
48 ÷ (2(9 + 3))=48 ÷ (2*(9 + 3))=48 ÷ (2*(12))=48/(24)=2
