I'm one of those performance freaks when it comes to gaming, so I'm thinking about eventually buying the latest Nvidia card (Geforce 7800 GTX) and to my dismay, I learned that I don't have a power supply that supports it. The requirement is supposed to be a 400W power supply, but I am using a 300W that came with my crappy Gateway.

How dangerous would it be to go ahead and pop this in (non-SLI) without meeting the power requirement?

It wouldn't be so much dangerous as it would cause weird issues such as other devices powering off automatically or the ystem just not booting or turning off completely during intense graphics as the card would not be able to draw the power needed to power the display. Even a decent power supply can be had for around $50 that would get you to where you need to be and if you're looking at spending that much on a card, why not go the rest of the way to make sure it will run?

I have a BTX case from Gateway, so I'm not sure where (or if) I can obtain a suitable power supply that would be compatible with my system. Any suggestions you fine gentlemen would have?:P

That's the problem, I don't think it is standard. I need specialized power output cables for SATA drives and my media card reader thingy. So far the G00gley has failed to find an appropriate power supply, sorry I should have been more specific originally. Basically, I need to find something that contains power leads as seen here.

I'm also worried about how I'm going to tell if it is the right size or not. Most of what google produced didnt show any dimensions but rather pictures that could be very misleading depending on how close up they are. Thanks again for your help and sorry to be so much truble :P

Those are a standard 24-pin power connector, a standard 4-pin power connector, and a standard SATA power connector? What's so special about them besides the fact that you'll actually have to read the specs for the power supplies to see if they are included?

any PSU will do ..

yes some sata drives are powered with their own connection but if u look at the harddrive u will notice the old 4 pin power supply ..

350 is way to low for the vidcard you have in mind

400 will do it ...but 500 or above is what u really want

this is the fix I get from that yeah this is hard to control. disabling bots is pretty much necessary as ai and other bots would push really old threads to the top. reduce weight of view count. disable guest view tracking if you really want to push active threads to the top. a bit of tinkering for a few days with the weights and other settings should get you a decent trending widget box.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I changed the settings a bit.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Narrowed it to 7 days for the half-life and set views to 0 weight.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I dont think Trending would work for this forum it would be better to just have the last 5 posts from anywhere
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably will have to give it some time to update.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I'm guessing it is not retroactive.

One thing I have noticed and I dont know if it is by design but like 1 out of 3 times I come to the site the Anubis screen just hangs open, if I refresh it will go away but sometimes it hangs
  • Ghan Ghan:
    I've seen that as well.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots
  • The Helper The Helper:

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
