Generally slow Windows logon

My computer boots up to the Windows logon screen fine, but then it slows down and takes a few minutes to bootup to where I can input my password, but before I actually enter my password.

This leads me to believe it has nothing to do with my startup programs, as they haven't started loading at that point. There are only 3 of those anyways.

Is there anything I can do generally to fix this?

Well, more information about the computer, OS, memory, network structure would be helpful. It sounds like something is trying to resolve some name using DNS, but it can't and is taking the full two minutes to time out.

Hmm, it still could be a service that is trying to start when the computer is started rather than a startup program. The services will be starting up through the entire boot process as some take longer than others. One of them is probably timing out trying to resolve a name through DNS as I said before. This would take about 2 minutes to happen and the comptuer will do exactly what is described. How does the computer act after you are at the desktop? Does it behave normally or does it occassionally just pause for a couple minutes at a time?
