Google has the iPad Mini in its sights.
The internet search company showcased a slimmer, more po
werful tablet computer on its Nexus brand and a thumb-sized device that lets popular mobile gadgets feed online content wirelessly to television sets.
The Nexus 7, which boasts a a 1980x1200 display, the world's highest resolution tablet screen, is a key part of Google's plan to expand its presence in consumer hardware, and ensure that its online services remain front-and-centre on mobile devices.
The tablet has a 1.2MP front-facing camera, a rear-facing 5MP camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and will be the first device shipped on Google's new Android 4.3.
It will go on sale in the US on July 30, with prices starting at $US229 ($288) for a basic version with 16 gigabytes of storage. A 32GB Wi-Fi version will cost $US269 and a 64GB LTE model will cost $US349.
