i was wondering what is the difference between a Geforce2 32mb card and a Geforce4 64 mb card.... is it worth updating or should i go straight for the 128 but spend alot of money ?

If your current card works for everything you need it to do, don't bother to spend the money upgrading.

computer games are getting more graphically intense and i figured i would have to update sooner or later. might as well do it now..
on top of my first questions i would also like to add

Which is better nVidia or Radion.

ATI currently has the best video card out. If I were you, I'd wait until the NV30 comes out. Prices will drop even more then.

when do you expect it to come out?

*edit* Where can i find information on it?

There's more to video cards than the amount of RAM. In fact, the amount of RAM isn't a meaningful way of describing the quality.

You need to look at its graphics processor and what capabilities it has-- this gets complicated and usually they are judged by 'benchmarking' -- running it through tests and comparing the results to other cards.

Look here for info on the ATI Radeon 9700 and benchmarks vs some other cards: http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q3/020819/index.html

There are a few pages about the NV30 here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1678 -- but you will always pay a lot for the latest technology. If you wait for its release, the price of the current "top cards" (Radeon 9700 and Geforce4 TI-4600) will drop.

One more thing: when you see "MX" in a card name in Nvidia's line, it means it is the low quality version. Geforce 4MX is actually closer to a Geforce2MX than it is to a Geforce4 TI. There's nothing wrong with the MX cards, as long as you realize that the aren't even in the same class as the better cards (hence the lower price)

What are your computer specs right now?

A very good and pretty cheap card is a Geforce4 Ti4200, you can get it in either 64mb or 128mb of RAM for about $150.

I paid 85$ CAN for my GeForce 4 MX. It might not be top of the line, but for the price I paid the value is great. The GeForce 4 TI most be over 200$ here in Canada.

I would wait if I were you. Your GeForce 2 should be fine for now. Like the others said, the NV30 series will come out in the near future which will bring a price drop on the current video cards.

cool thanks all
=)

ill post my comp specs tommorow .. i dont have time tonight its bed time =)

Ok My specs

1.6 ghz P4
32 mb Geforce 2 Gfx card
768 sdram
18 gighard drive
sound blaster live! sound card
....
dell mouse pad and a steel cd case holder =)

well there's nothing else in there that needs upgrading (except HD if you have a lot of files and are running low) so video card would be next if you have nothing else to spend money on :)

I would go with a Geforce4 Ti4200 128mb. It should run very nice on your system and will not cost you to much.

Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.

  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it
