I don't know about brushes, but many people use c4ds and stocks, and these tutorials easily show you about color options etc. Some might be kind of advanced though.. (As in, you need to know how to reach that option and that vocabulary etc.)

This is a really good site for realistic photo editing and taught me a lot. I discovered it a long time ago, but I couldn't find the link. >.<

Then I found a tutorial on pslover and it linked me to it.

I personally think GIMP is better. I mean, if you don't have a channels tab, which elements doesn't have and GIMP does, then it's an auto loss in my book.

Photoshop Elements is ok to use. I mean, you can't create fantastic stuff, but for photo editing (especially photo merging), it is good.
