i got this error this morning when turn on my computer

it seems like my computer won't detect my hard drive on boot up, i finally be able to got it to work by cold booting (turn it off and then on) 7 times

it happens on the boot up screen, when bios try to detect primary master and primary slave

i also look at my hard drive and the IDE ribbon is securly attactched, so there's no any physical error

my system spec:
windows 98 SE
pentium 3 733MHz
384 RAM
nvidia geforce 4 mx 420
soundblaster pci 128

1st edit: is it possible the above error is caused by:
2 x VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller, PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller, SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus, and ACPI IRQ hoder for PCI Steering all on IRQ 9?

No I don't think its related to the IRQ sharing.

You should go into the BIOS options and go to the "IDE HDD DETECTION" (or whatever) screen. Let it detect the drives once, and it should retain those settings. This is different than setting the drives to "auto" (which forces them to be detected each time you boot)

nope.......

By the way, my suggestion might not actually fix the problem-- it's just a better way to set up your drives :)

There might be a problem with the drive... this would be a good time to back up anything important :) I'm not sure how to test this type of thing further.

If you can get your hands on a copy of SpinRite 5.0, then you may wanna run that against the drive to check for problems. Otherwise, do what Rapmaster suggested and contact me for the software through the email in my signature.

I doubt it is a virus.

I have on rare occasion seen where the BIOS forgets what type of HD you have, sometimes just having the BIOS redetect your hard drive will solve the problem. try it, it won't hurt

my bios is setupped so that every time i turn on my computer it will automatically detect the hard drive

the problem now is when i turn on my computer, the bios cannot detect my hard drive

Have you tried unplugging and immediately repluggin in both ends ot the IDE cable. some time they oxidize and end up with a bad connection.

Wow - the change in the stats are major. I kind of knew it was all bots but wow, to see the effect. Why the social media sites cant do something like this I have no idea.
  • Ghan Ghan:
Probably inflates their numbers so they look better to advertisers.
  • The Helper The Helper:
Yeah google does not filter those bots. I remember when Apex was doing Google ads I saw the same IPs in there as I was seeing here - google is totally tracking all those bots as traffic and most google traffic, at least ours, was all bots

oh wow, i bet i can post x links now and do the webp pics now giggity

We are now on Ubuntu 24.04. Had some issues with the style after the OS/PHP upgrade but now resolved.

Weekend went by too fast. Next weekend I am going to try to do a nature thing - buddy of mine lives by the Colorado river and has some kayaks and invited me to do some kayaking from a place he knows to get on the river.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    That sounds like an adventure.
  • The Helper The Helper:
400 users all online all looking at latest content
  • The Helper The Helper:
I wonder how all these bots that sit on the lastest content page get passed anubis or maybe they did not but they are just registering on whos online
  • The Helper The Helper:
showing up on whos online not registration
  • Ghan Ghan:
The first gate is stopping all the bots that don't execute javascript.
  • Ghan Ghan:
That's the main thing with Anubis - no Javascript, no site. Typically you can still get the site to load without Javascript.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I remember the whole javascript thing, question - how many real people disable that?
  • The Helper The Helper:
Hell I guess I could go back on the stats to know that - we probably capture that and we know the before and after
  • Ghan Ghan:
Real users can't really disable Javascript anymore these days.
  • Ghan Ghan:
The internet is broken without it.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Bot readable, not human usable.
  • The Helper The Helper:
    got it
  • The Helper The Helper:
    Happy Thursday!
